Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled IT Operations Specialist to join our team and manage the IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management application within our Windows/Linux environment.
The IT Operations Specialist will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and support of the IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management application. This role requires a strong understanding of Windows/Linux infrastructure and administration, and a basic understanding of scripting in Batch, PowerShell, Shell or Python. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience in IT operations, with a focus on software configuration and application management tools. The role also includes hands-on ownership of observability (Splunk, Grafana) and incident, problem and change management through ServiceNow.
Key Responsibilities
Administration of IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management
- Own the complete lifecycle of software configuration management applications (per ITIL standard, IBM preferred) in both Windows and Linux environments, from planning to closure of the service.
- Be part of a team that deploys and supports the IBM platform, focusing on setup and configuration with different topologies.
- Manage and maintain the stability of IBM environments for customers.
- Apply working knowledge of any web server (preferably IBM WAS/Liberty, Apache) for installation, configuration and deployment.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues related to ELM applications (Splunk preferred).
- Define, implement and optimize monitoring solutions for applications and underlying infrastructure.
Monitoring and Observability (Splunk, Grafana)
- Onboard ELM components (JTS, RTC/EWM, DNG, ETM, RQM, Report Builder, WAS/Liberty, Apache/IHS) into Splunk by configuring Universal Forwarders and log ingestion (application, access, GC and OS logs).
- Build and maintain Splunk searches, dashboards, reports and alerts for application health, error trends, user activity and performance.
- Create and maintain Grafana dashboards for ELM and infrastructure metrics such as CPU, memory, disk, JVM heap and GC, response times, and server and database availability.
- Configure data sources for Grafana (Splunk, Prometheus, or databases) and set up alert rules with notification channels (email, Teams/Slack, ServiceNow).
- Define monitoring standards, thresholds and SLIs/SLOs for ELM environments, and tune alerts to reduce noise and false positives.
- Set up proactive monitoring (synthetic checks, license usage, certificate expiry, backup and indexing job status) to detect issues before users are affected.
- Integrate monitoring alerts with ServiceNow so that incidents are created automatically with the right priority, assignment group and context.
ITSM and Incident Management (ServiceNow)
- Manage incidents, service requests, problems and changes for ELM using ServiceNow in line with ITIL processes and SLAs.
- Perform root cause analysis for recurring issues and raise and track problem records and known errors.
- Raise and implement change requests for upgrades, patches, configuration changes and maintenance windows, following the change approval process.
- Maintain CMDB entries (configuration items and relationships) for ELM servers, applications and dependencies.
- Create and maintain knowledge articles and runbooks in ServiceNow for common issues and monitoring alerts.
- Use ServiceNow dashboards and reports to track ticket trends, SLA compliance and operational KPIs.
Windows and Linux Environment Management
- Administer Windows and Linux servers and workstations, ensuring optimal performance and security.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to maintain a stable and efficient environment.
User Support
- Provide technical support to end users, addressing issues related to IBM ELM application usage and functionality.
- Coordinate technical issues related to applications together with customers and the vendor (IBM).
- Triage and resolve L2/L3 tickets raised through ServiceNow, escalating to IBM support where needed.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, processes and procedures.
- Generate reports on system performance, usage statistics and incident resolution.
- Publish periodic availability, performance and incident reports using Splunk, Grafana and ServiceNow data.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including development, QA and project management, integrating into the software development lifecycle.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to understand their needs and provide timely solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in IT operations, with a focus on software configuration management applications, preferably IBM ELM.
- Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems, Linux and infrastructure administration.
- Hands-on experience with Splunk (SPL queries, dashboards, alerts, forwarder configuration) and Grafana (dashboards, data sources, alerting).
- Working experience with ServiceNow (incident, problem, change and request management; CMDB basics).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with any SDLC management tool is preferable.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and software development processes.
- Knowledge of ITIL best practices for IT service management (ITIL Foundation certification is a plus).
- Splunk Core Certified User/Power User or ServiceNow Certified System Administrator is a plus.
- Experience in Grafana and Prometheus
