About the Role
Our client, a leading Life Insurance & Takaful MNC, is seeking a mid-level Java Developer to join their development team on a 12-month contract basis. This role supports the development, enhancement, and maintenance of core insurance/takaful platforms, working within an Agile environment alongside business analysts, QA, and cross-functional stakeholders across the region. This is a hands-on delivery role suited to someone comfortable working independently on assigned modules while still developing broader system exposure.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and deploy Java-based applications supporting core insurance/takaful systems (policy administration, underwriting, claims, or related modules)
Contribute across the full SDLC — requirements analysis, design, coding, unit testing, SIT/UAT support, and production deployment
Work with Business Analysts to translate BRDs into technical specifications and implementable solutions
Collaborate with cross-border stakeholders (regional/HQ teams) on system integration and enhancement projects
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, escalating complex cases where needed
Ensure code adheres to internal architecture standards, security guidelines, and Shariah-compliance requirements (where applicable for Takaful products)
Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and Agile ceremonies
Prepare technical documentation for handover and audit purposes
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
3–5 years of hands-on Java development experience, ideally with some exposure to insurance, banking, or financial services systems
Solid proficiency in Core Java, Spring/Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and relational databases (Oracle/SQL Server/MySQL)
Working knowledge of microservices architecture and version control tools (Git)
Exposure to insurance or financial services systems is advantageous (policy admin systems, claims processing, or core banking/insurance platforms) but not mandatory
Understanding of Takaful principles or prior exposure to Takaful/Islamic finance systems is a plus
Comfortable working within Agile/Scrum delivery environments
Good analytical and problem-solving skills, able to work with moderate supervision on assigned deliverables
Language Requirements
English — Professional working proficiency (spoken and written), required for regional/HQ collaboration and documentation
Mandarin — Preferred, to support communication with regional stakeholders and business units
Bahasa Malaysia — Preferred, to support local team collaboration and business communication
Other Details
Contract Duration: 12 months, with potential for extension or conversion based on business needs and performance
