Java Software Engineer - Leading Investment Bank

Our client is a tier-1 leading investment bank, currently on the lookout for a talented Java Software Engineer to join their high-performing Technology division based in Hong Kong. This is a high-visibility, engineering-first opportunity within a critical business unit. You will play an integral role in a multi-year engineering modernization initiative, transitioning enterprise-critical portfolio accounting systems into resilient, cloud-ready microservices. The platforms you build will directly power real-time portfolio valuations, complex transaction processing, performance analytics, and automated reporting across global markets.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and deploy mission-critical backend accounting services using Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs.
• Construct reusable components, highly structured data models, and event-driven workflows handling low-latency, high-volume financial data streams.
• Partner closely with architecture, product management, and QA teams across international engineering hubs (including Hong Kong and India).
• Diagnose bottlenecks, optimize queries (DB2/SQL), and elevate system performance across large-scale distributed databases and data streams.
• Drive design discussions, conduct rigorous peer code reviews, and advocate for engineering best practices across the full software development lifecycle.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Deep understanding of Core Java, multithreading, concurrency, memory management, and OOP design patterns.
• Proven track record building and scaling backend microservices using Spring Boot and RESTful services.
• Solid expertise in relational database design (SQL/DB2), schema optimization, and writing complex queries.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting, debugging, and optimizing high-throughput distributed applications.
• Strong communication skills with an appetite for tackling ambiguity and solving end-to-end technical challenges.
• Prior experience with financial systems, portfolio valuation, general ledger, performance attribution, or accounting engines are good to have.
• Hands-on exposure to NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB), distributed message brokers (Kafka), containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), or cloud-native tooling are good to have.
