Junior IT Support Officer
Salary: $27 – $30 per hour
IT Support Technician (Level 1) — Part-time
Defy IT | Indooroopilly, Brisbane QLD | Part-time, [3 days / 22.5 hours] per week $27-$30 per hour + super + km allowance
About Us
Defy IT is a Brisbane-based managed service provider looking after around 40 small businesses across legal, healthcare, accounting, professional services and trades. We handle everything for our clients — managed support, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure and networking — which means you'll see real environments, not just password resets.
We're small, which is the point. You'll work directly alongside our systems administrator and get exposure to work that would take years to reach in a larger shop.
The Role
We're after a Level 1 technician to take first-line support across our client base, with a growth path to Level 2 as you build depth.
The split is roughly 75% technical, 25% business support. The technical side is remote and onsite support, installs, and maintenance. The business support side is scheduling, quoting, and ordering — we're being upfront about it because it's genuinely part of the role, and because it's how you learn how an MSP actually makes money.
What You'll Do
First-line support via phone, email, remote tools and onsite visits
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software and network issues
Install and configure workstations, printers, and network equipment
Support Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Windows 10/11 and Windows Server environments
Onsite visits to small-business clients across greater Brisbane
Document work properly in our PSA and documentation platforms
Assist with scheduling, quoting and hardware ordering
Escalate cleanly — knowing when to hand something up is a skill we value
Our Stack
You'll work with NinjaOne RMM, SuperOps, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, Windows Server, UniFi networking, and Proxmox. Familiarity is a bonus, not a requirement — we'll teach the tools.
What You'll Bring
Certificate IV or Diploma in Information Technology, or equivalent hands-on experience
Around 12 months in an IT support role with fieldwork experience (helpdesk, break-fix, internal IT)
Current driver's licence and a reliable vehicle — onsite work is part of the job
Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft 365, and networking fundamentals (DHCP, DNS, VLANs, VPN)
Clear written and verbal communication — you'll be talking to business owners, not other technicians
The judgement to manage competing priorities without needing to be chased
Unrestricted working rights in Australia
Bonus points for:
Active Directory, Group Policy, or basic Windows Server administration
Azure, Google Workspace, or Microsoft 365 admin experience
Networking beyond the basics — firewalls, VLANs, site-to-site VPN
Certifications (CompTIA A+ or Network+, Microsoft Fundamentals, or similar)
Linux Server Administration Experience (Ubuntu, Debian)
What We Offer
$27-$30 per hour depending on experience, plus superannuation
ATO-mandated reimbursement for onsite travel, paid on top
Direct mentoring from a systems administrator and the managing director — no layers between you and the people who know the answers
A documented path to Level 2 within 12 months for the right person, with certification costs covered
Exposure to the whole business: technical delivery, client relationships, and how an MSP is run
No after-hours on-call — when you're off, you're off
How to Apply
Apply with your resume and a short note covering two things: the most interesting technical problem you've solved, and what you want to be doing in three years.
We read every application. Due to volume we can only respond to candidates we're progressing — we'll be in touch within two weeks if that's you. No agencies, please.
