Summary

Chicago Tube & Iron's internal IT team is hiring a junior systems administrator in Romeoville, IL to provide frontline technical support and assist with administering Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Windows workstations, VMware, Cisco phone systems, Veeam backups, and cybersecurity tools across multiple company locations.

Build your IT career while supporting technology across a growing, multi-location organization.

Chicago Tube & Iron is looking for a Junior Systems Administrator to join our IT team. This is a great opportunity for an IT professional who enjoys troubleshooting, working directly with users, and gaining hands-on experience across a broad range of technologies.

In this role, you won't be limited to a traditional help desk. You'll support everything from Microsoft 365 and Windows workstations to VMware, Cisco phone systems, backups, and cybersecurity tools, while helping keep our technology running smoothly across multiple Company locations.

What You'll Do

As a Junior Systems Administrator, you'll provide day-to-day technical support while also assisting with system administration, technology projects, and infrastructure improvements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide frontline technical support for computers, servers, printers, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows desktop and laptop computers.
  • Maintain standardized system images for Company computer models.
  • Support Microsoft 365, including applications, email, user accounts, permissions, and related services.
  • Assist with Active Directory user and access administration.
  • Provide technical support for our Cisco phone system and VMware virtual environment.
  • Assist with the administration, monitoring, and testing of Veeam backup and recovery systems.
  • Support cybersecurity efforts, including endpoint protection, software updates, access controls, and security monitoring.
  • Document technical issues, resolutions, system configurations, and equipment changes.
  • Escalate complex technical or cybersecurity issues to appropriate IT personnel or vendors.
  • Assist with technology deployments, upgrades, equipment installations, and other IT projects.
  • Provide technology support to Company branch locations as needed.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical troubleshooting skills with a helpful, service-oriented approach.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent technical training or relevant experience will also be considered.
  • At least 2 years of experience in technical support, systems administration, or a related IT role.
  • Hands-on experience working in a Windows-based environment.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Cisco, VMware, and Veeam preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to handle confidential employee, financial, customer, and Company information appropriately.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to Company locations.

What You'll Gain

This position offers the opportunity to build experience across multiple areas of IT rather than being limited to one system or specialty. You'll work with end users, infrastructure, virtualization, backups, cybersecurity, and technology projects—making this an excellent next step for someone looking to grow into a well-rounded systems administrator.

Work Environment

This position is 100% on-site in Romeoville, primarily office-based and requires regular computer use. Occasional lifting, moving, or installation of computer and networking equipment may be required.

Some travel to Company locations and occasional work outside normal business hours may be necessary for scheduled system maintenance, upgrades, or urgent technical issues.

Ready to take the next step in your IT career?

Join Chicago Tube & Iron and put your technical skills to work in a role where you'll have the opportunity to learn, troubleshoot, solve problems, and make an impact across the organization.
