Laboratory Leader - Automotive Batteries
- Schedules, assigns, reviews and coordinates workflow to assure proper utilization of laboratory staff.
- Trains assigned staff, provides career counseling, and operates as a working supervisor.
- Collaborates with supervisor on staffing levels, performance appraisals, merit ratings, promotions, and transfers of assigned staff.
- Ensures company policies are followed in the lab areas and facilitates employee relations within the assigned laboratory section.
- Develops annual budgetary goals, capital expenditure budget for laboratory equipment, and tactical plans for the assigned laboratory team.
- Prepares instructions for test methods and procedures, quality control, and maintenance procedures.
- Examines test samples and reads measuring instruments, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational instructions.
- Evaluates test performance, provides feedback regarding issues and/or problems with test and data sheets, and revises test protocols and data sheets.
- Reports test run and test equipment evaluation results.
- May plan tests, evaluate test results and report opinions and interpretations.
- Examines requests for laboratory tests and new and/or modified laboratory test equipment to determine equipment needs.
- Develops operating, maintenance, and test procedures based on laboratory procedures, standards and safety policies.
- Monitors test methods and procedures and evaluates need for technical training of assigned staff and modification of equipment, methods or procedures.
- May assist PDEs and/or Engineering to modify existing methods or develop and validate new test methods.
- Operates machines and special laboratory equipment.
- Performs routine maintenance of designated test equipment and laboratory area.
- Communicates with clients during the setup and performance of a test to demonstrate equipment test methods and/or to discuss test results.
- Communicates with UL field representatives to discuss follow-up tests, samples, equipment, methods and/or results, and outside contractors regarding equipment needs.
- Communicates with plant department personnel to offer suggestions pertinent to equipment needs and may arrange for delivery or disposal of test samples.
- Records observed or calculated data on appropriate UL forms and prepares data sheets and reports.
- Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
- Performs other duties as directed.
- High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Physics, or similar preferred.
- 5+ years of engineering or engineering laboratory experience required.
- Automotive battery or other automotive testing experience highly preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to lead a team of all experience levels.

The estimated salary range for this position is $120,000-140,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
