Summary

Laboratory Technician conducts analytical testing on botanical raw materials, in-process bulk materials, and finished goods using HPTLC, GCMS, and GCFID instruments to ensure product quality and conformance to specifications. Performs documentation, equipment maintenance, and collaborates with the Quality Management Team to meet production schedule goals.

Pay Range: Lab Tech 1 $19.00 to $21.00 per hour

Lab Tech 2 would be $22 to $25 per hour.

Job Summary

This position conducts analytical testing for botanical raw material, in-process bulk material, and finished goods. Testing must adhere to established laboratory methods to ensure conformance to specifications. This position assists with quality control and is responsible for performing the required testing needed to achieve production schedule goals.

Depending on experience and qualifications, candidates will be hired at either the Level I or Level II designation.


Candidate Level Determination

This position may be filled at either a Laboratory Technician 1 or Laboratory Technician 2 level. The level will be determined based on the candidate’s education, technical expertise, depth of laboratory experience, and demonstrated ability to perform advanced responsibilities such as method development, cross-functional collaboration, and project leadership. Candidates meeting minimum qualifications may be considered for Level 1, while those with broader experience, advanced technical skills, and demonstrated initiative may be considered for Level 2.

  • Ensure routine laboratory tests are performed and reported properly within established turnaround times.
  • Thoroughly and accurately complete all required documentation with attention to detail.
  • Perform analytical testing using HPTLC, GCMS, GCFID and the preventive maintenance of associated instruments.
  • Ensure optimal operation of laboratory equipment by collaborating with laboratory team in monitoring and performing preventive maintenance as scheduled tasks are due.
  • Complete all company required training and department activity reports as requested.
  • Prepare reports for Quality Management Team, as directed.
  • Assist others with projects as assigned and share ideas on process improvement with the Quality Management Team and others, as directed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment through adherence to companywide safety protocols.

Additional Responsibilities by Level

Laboratory Technician I

  • Perform testing following established methods and standard operating procedures
  • Assist team members with assigned projects and process
  • Support Quality Management Team reporting as directed
  • Focus on accuracy, consistency, and achieving testing KPIs

Laboratory Technician II

(Includes all Level I responsibilities, plus:)

  • Conduct research & development testing and assist with method development and investigations
  • Collaborate with chemists and management on process improvements and problem-solving efforts
  • Lead or independently execute assigned projects and improvement initiatives
  • Coordinate third-party testing submissions and results tracking
  • Prepare Certificates of Analysis (CoAs) for batch release
  • Assist with equipment troubleshooting and coordinate external service support as needed
  • Cross-train in microbiology laboratory to provide operational backup

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Level 1

  1. Meet 95% of assigned testing deadlines.
  2. Complete all testing documentation with 95% accuracy.
  3. Assist laboratory staff on projects as needed.

Level 2

  1. Meet 95% of testing deadlines
  2. Meet 100% of assigned project deadlines
  3. Demonstrate cross-functional capability (e.g., microbiology backup)

Working Conditions

  • Work Environment: On-site laboratory work

  • Physical Demands: May require standing in a laboratory environment for four to six hours of an eight-hour shift.
