The role:
Kloud9 is seeking a Lead Engineer with strong Google Cloud experience to lead a data engineering team building data products for a large US enterprise data platform. The role combines hands-on development with technical leadership of a Scrum team, working closely with architects, engineering managers and client stakeholders.

• Lead a team of data engineers in designing, building and deploying data pipelines and dataproducts on BigQuery, Dataflow and Cloud Composer.
• Translate architecture, canonical model designs and source-to-target mappings into technical designs and implementation plans.
• Contribute hands-on to complex pipeline development, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
• Conduct code reviews and enforce engineering standards for code quality, testing and documentation.
• Define and implement unit testing, data quality checks and data reconciliation for the team & deliverables.
• Lead sprint planning, story breakdown and estimation for the team, and report progress, risks and dependencies to the engineering manager.
• Coordinate defect triage and root cause analysis with QA and source system teams.
• Manage code promotion through CI/CD pipelines and support production releases.
• Mentor engineers and support their technical growth.
• Engage with US-based client engineering teams, with partial overlap with US time zones as required.

Skills

• 7 to 10 years of experience in data engineering, including at least 2 years leading a team of engineers.
• At least 4 years of hands-on experience with Google Cloud data services, including BigQuery, Dataflow (Apache Beam), Cloud Composer (Airflow), Pub/Sub and Cloud Storage.
• Expert-level SQL and strong Python skills.
• Strong understanding of data modelling, data warehousing and ELT/ETL design patterns.
• Experience with Git-based CI/CD, environment management and production release processes.
• Experience working in Agile Scrum teams using Jira.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Good to Have

• Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer certification.
• Experience with ERP data such as SAP or PeopleSoft.
• Experience with data quality, cataloguing or observability tools such as Dataplex.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools in data engineering.
