Lead DevOps Engineer AWS

Summary

Lead the migration of a European car marketplace to AWS, hardening security and automating infrastructure with Terraform and Ansible while contributing to PHP/Python codebases.

Our client is a leading European online car marketplace, serving over 30 million monthly users across 18 countries. As a Lead DevOps Engineer – AWS Migration & Security, you will play a pivotal role in modernizing the platform that powers their business — migrating core services to AWS and strengthening the security posture that protects their customers and data at scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute the migration of existing services to AWS, with a focus on ECS, RDS, and AWS networking (VPC, subnets, security groups, load balancing)
  • Identify, prioritize, and remediate security vulnerabilities; apply security fixes and patches across infrastructure and application layers
  • Build and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform and configuration management with Ansible
  • Contribute hands-on application development and code changes in PHP and/or Python to support migration and security work
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to coordinate migration cutovers with minimal disruption
  • Document migration runbooks, infrastructure changes, and security remediation work

Requirements:

  • AWS certification: Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) or AWS Certified Developer, backed by proven hands-on experience with AWS in production environments — particularly ECS, RDS, and networking; multi-account experience is a plus
  • Strong infrastructure-as-code skills with Terraform; working experience with Ansible
  • Solid software development experience in PHP, Python, or TypeScript, with the ability to read, modify, and ship production code
  • Experience with cloud migration projects (lift-and-shift and/or re-platforming)
  • Practical security experience: vulnerability assessment, patching, hardening, and remediation
  • Comfort working across teams and codebases in a cross-functional setting
  • Availability to work Toronto timezone (EST/EDT) business hours

Nice to have:

  • Experience with containerization and Docker in production
  • CI/CD pipeline design and maintenance
  • Familiarity with compliance or security frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, CIS benchmarks)
  • Prior experience in contract or consulting engagements with defined deliverables
