Lead Front-End Developer - Design System

The opportunity

The Front-End Lead owns the technical direction of the Worldline Design System: architecture, engineering standards, and how we deliver one coherent system across frameworks and platforms. You partner with the Design System Manager, who owns product vision and governance, to make the system something teams want to adopt. Get the architecture right and you accelerate hundreds of engineers; get it wrong and everyone forks. Our stack: React, React Native and Angular. Depth in at least two, informed opinions about the third — expert level in all three isn't the expectation.

Day-to-day responsibilities

  • Architecture: Own repository structure, component APIs, theming and token architecture, versioning and distribution strategy across frameworks.
  • Engineering practice: Define coding standards, review approach, definition of done, test strategy and release process — and hold the bar consistently.
  • Team leadership: Mentor front-end engineers, run technical hiring, and grow the team's capability.
  • Roadmap partnership: Turn the Design System Manager's roadmap into a realistic technical plan and sequencing.
  • Contribution model: Build an RFC and contribution process so product engineers contribute upstream instead of forking.
  • Adoption: Ship migration guides, codemods, lint rules and starter kits; pair with product teams to remove friction.
  • Measurement: Establish adoption telemetry — component usage, version drift, accessibility compliance — and use it to steer and to prove value to leadership.
  • Accessibility at scale: Make WCAG 2.2 AA and EAA conformance a structural property of the system, not a per-team effort.

Who are we looking for

  • Experience: 8+ years front-end engineering, including 2+ years on a design system or shared UI platform used by multiple teams.
  • Leadership: Proven ownership of architecture and standards for a codebase other engineers depend on.
  • Frameworks: Real depth in at least two of React, React Native and Angular.
  • Core expertise: TypeScript, modern CSS architecture and theming, cross-platform distribution.
  • Tokens: Multi-brand, multi-platform token architecture and Figma-to-code pipelines.
  • Release discipline: Semantic versioning, backwards compatibility, deprecation strategy, monorepo tooling, automated releases.
  • Accessibility: Expert-level WCAG 2.2, ARIA authoring practices and assistive technology testing.

Nice to have: Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP), Compose or SwiftUI; public/open-source design system work; developer experience or platform engineering background; payments or B2B SaaS.
Soft Skills

  • Stakeholder management: You align designers, engineers and senior leadership, explaining trade-offs in each audience's terms.
  • Mentorship: You measure success by the capability of the team around you.
  • Design fluency: You reason comfortably about a Figma library and make designers braver, not more constrained.
  • Systems thinking: A passion for order, scalability and maintainability, with an eye for detail.
