Lead Microservices & AI Technical Architect

Lead enterprise microservices, event-driven architecture and production AI delivery for a major Federal Government transformation program.

The opportunity

A major Federal Government department is seeking an experienced Lead Microservices & AI Technical Architect to shape its enterprise approach to cloud-native applications, event-driven architecture and AI-enabled software delivery.

This is a senior, hands-on role requiring someone who can establish architecture standards, guide engineering teams and translate strategy into secure, scalable and operational solutions.

  • Long Term Contract - Federal Government Department
  • Clearance: Active Baseline or higher clerance (NV1/ NV2) required
  • Location: Canberra, ACT preferred- Hybrid and geographically distributed delivery supported

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture of enterprise microservices, APIs and event-driven systems
  • Establish reusable architecture patterns, standards and governance
  • Guide the modernisation of complex legacy and monolithic applications
  • Lead the design and operationalisation of enterprise AI capabilities
  • Support solutions involving GenAI, LLMs, RAG, semantic search and machine learning
  • Embed security, privacy and responsible-AI controls into solution design
  • Provide direction across container platforms, DevSecOps, CI/CD and observability
  • Lead technical decisions and provide mentorship across multidisciplinary teams
  • Engage confidently with executives, architecture forums and delivery stakeholders

About you

You will bring:

  • Extensive experience as a Technical Architect, Solution Architect, Enterprise Architect, Principal Engineer or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience designing enterprise microservices and cloud-native applications
  • Strong knowledge of API-led and event-driven architecture
  • Experience with messaging or streaming technologies such as Kafka, Event Hubs, Service Bus or equivalent
  • Experience developing and deploying enterprise AI solutions into production
  • Knowledge of GenAI, LLMs, RAG, semantic search or machine-learning technologies
  • Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, AKS, EKS, GKE or similar platforms
  • Strong DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing and observability knowledge
  • Understanding of secure-by-design and responsible-AI principles
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and influence senior stakeholders

Experience within Federal Government, major digital-transformation programs or highly regulated enterprise environments will be highly regarded.
