A fintech company committed to making life simpler and more secure for African communities through innovative financial and technology solutions is seeking a Lead Software Engineer who will spearhead new projects, take a leadership role in decision‑making, and help develop their core systems. You will collaborate closely with product, operations, and business development teams as they craft and integrate their technology platform.
Responsibilities
- Lead our software team in digital transformation and innovation to drive the company into a future where ‘Software is eating the world’.
- Provide technical guidance to the team.
- Manage software development according to specifications and timelines.
- Oversee overall architecture, hands‑on development, and building the team through training, hiring, mentorship, and guidance.
- Maintain and improve existing solutions.
- Ensure software is developed to quality standards.
- Maintain and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct technical investigations.
- Engage with business representatives to provide information and support decision‑making, ensuring the development team meets business requirements accurately and promptly.
- Focus on utilizing appropriate tools and processes for development, continuously improving them as IT and business requirements evolve.
- Contribute to application design and technical documentation.
Minimum Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a development role using Python.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a leadership/managerial role.
- Knowledge and experience with cloud architecture.
- Knowledge and experience with at least one Python web framework (such as Django or Flask).
- Knowledge and experience with front‑end technologies, including JavaScript frameworks.
- Knowledge and experience with DevOps automation.
- Knowledge and experience with Test‑Driven Development (TDD) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) implementation.
- Knowledge and experience with secure coding practices (OWASP).
- Knowledge and experience with Linux, Nginx, and PostgreSQL.
- Knowledge and experience applying Scrum/Agile methodologies.
