Mission of the Role

To transform pulp mill and production waste streams into value-added by-products, energy, and secondary materials—strengthening circularity and creating new revenue opportunities.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Map and analyze mill waste streams to identify opportunities for resource recovery and valorization.
  2. Develop innovative by-products from lignin, ash, and sludge for applications such as biopolymers, fillers, or energy feedstocks.
  3. Design and implement circular economy strategies in collaboration with recyclers and external partners.
  4. Enhance chemical recovery systems, reduce effluent toxicity, and drive zero-liquid discharge innovations.
  5. Lead lab-to-pilot trials, validate scale-up potential, and build business cases demonstrating ROI.
  6. Collaborate with research institutes, startups, and funding bodies to advance waste valorization initiatives.
  7. Measure and report sustainability metrics, integrate projects into mill operations, and support commercialization of by-products.

Education
master’s or Ph.D. degree in one of the following fields:

  • Pulp & Paper Technology
  • Materials Science / Polymer Science or related Field

Experience

  • 10+ years in R&D or product development in waste valorization, circular manufacturing, or industrial by-product utilization.
  • Hands-on experience with lab-to-pilot testing and scale-up projects.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance, environmental, and sustainability standards.
  • Proven ability to build cross-functional collaborations and commercial cases.

Skills

  • Expertise in process chemistry, material recovery, and by-product development.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to translate technical outcomes into commercial opportunities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across R&D, operations, and business teams.
