Lead Security Guard

Summary

Oversees security operations at a healthcare facility, training staff, controlling access, patrolling sites, and responding to incidents while ensuring compliance with federal regulations.

This position is located in Kayenta Service Unit, Quality Management Branch, Kayenta, Arizona. The position serves as a Lead Security Guard responsible for protecting government buildings, property, employees, patients, visitors, and occupants. Duties include providing security including the Kayenta and Inscription House Health Centers, federal housing, and other designated sites. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Leads and coordinates daily security operations by distributing workload, monitoring employee performance, adjusting priorities, and ensuring assigned duties are completed accurately and on time. Provides training and guidance to security personnel, including on-the-job training, instruction on procedures and techniques, and feedback regarding performance, progress, and training needs. Controls access to restricted areas by monitoring identification and credentials, referring individuals without proper authorization to designated control points, and addressing observed violations of rules and regulations. Conducts security patrols and responds to incidents by inspecting alarms, locks, fences, gates, and other barriers; detecting security threats; protecting government property; and detaining or restraining individuals when authorized. Coordinates emergency and traffic-control activities and prepares reports by assisting responding officers and emergency units, directing pedestrian and vehicle traffic, documenting incidents and safety hazards, and maintaining accurate records of security activities. Assumes necessary supervisory and operational responsibilities during emergencies or supervisor absences until supervisory personnel arrive.

Upon receipt of instructions, applicants must complete all required background investigation forms within five (5) calendar days of issuance. Timely completion is critical to avoid delays in processing or a determination of unsuitability. Financial Suitability Requirement: This position requires a review of the applicant's financial history as part of the personnel security and suitability determination. Applicants must demonstrate financial responsibility, maintain good standing with creditors, and satisfy all legal financial obligations prior to applying. Individuals with substantial delinquent or unresolved financial obligations-including, but not limited to, delinquent federal or state tax liabilities, defaulted federal student loans, court-ordered fines or fees, or child support arrears-may be deemed unsuitable for employment with the Indian Health Service.
