Lead/Senior Microsoft Fabric BI Architect - contract

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior BI Architect to lead the design, implementation, and evolution of a modern enterprise analytics platform built on Microsoft Fabric. This is a key leadership role responsible for defining the architecture, standards, and roadmap for data and business intelligence capabilities across the organisation.

The successful candidate will work with business and ICT stakeholders to ensure data platforms, governance standards, and analytics solutions support strategic decision-making while being scalable, secure, and future-ready.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end architecture of enterprise BI and analytics solutions.
  • Design Microsoft Fabric architecture including lakehouse, warehouse, semantic models, and reporting layers.
  • Define enterprise data models, integration patterns, and architecture standards.
  • Establish and promote best practices for BI development and data governance.
  • Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into scalable solutions.
  • Oversee platform lifecycle activities including migration, optimisation, scalability, and performance management.
  • Maintain alignment between data architecture, business objectives, and enterprise technology strategy.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to data engineering, analytics, and reporting teams.

Requirements

  • 7+ years' experience in BI, data architecture, or enterprise analytics roles.
  • Significant experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale BI and analytics platforms.

Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Azure Analytics technologies including:

    • Azure Data Factory
    • Azure Data Lake
    • Power BI
    • Fabric Notebooks and PySpark

Experience developing:

    • Enterprise data models
    • Conceptual, logical and physical data architectures
    • Integration architecture documentation
    • Strong understanding of data governance, DevOps, source control, and deployment automation.
    • Experience working in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline.
  • Microsoft Azure or Fabric certifications.
  • Data Architecture or Enterprise Architecture certifications.
