As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within Consumer and community banking technology team, you are an integral part of an agile team that enhances, builds, and delivers secure, stable, and scalable technology products. Keep critical environments healthy and reliable so teams can test faster with fewer repeat incidents

Job Responsibilities

  • Build, enhance, and support software solutions with a strong focus on operational excellence, stability, security, and scalability across development and test environments.
  • Own environment health for critical environments, including routine health checks and clear environment health status communications.
  • Own incident management including triage, investigation, resolution, stakeholder coordination, and root-cause follow-ups to prevent recurrence and improve operational stability.
  • Drive proactive monitoring and automation, including automated health checks and log-based monitoring.
  • Support and enhance a triage user interface/tooling, including participation in requirements discussions and ongoing maintenance.
  • Maintain monitoring queries for request/response flows, perform post-change validation, and support issue investigation workflows and ticket handling.
  • Support environment hygiene processes, including post-restage validation and scheduled executions as needed.
  • Implement and maintain observability, including creating and maintaining dashboards and validating data on an ongoing basis.
  • Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes (e.g., AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test strategy acceleration, incident/root-cause analysis support), while establishing consistent validation standards (secure coding, peer review, automated testing) and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
  • Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.

Required qualifications, skills, and capabilities

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
  • Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including release and support.
  • Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages, with the ability to develop secure, high-quality code and debug complex issues.
  • Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods (CI/CD), with an engineering mindset toward reducing toil and improving reliability.
  • Strong incident and problem-management capabilities, including triage, root-cause analysis, and implementing preventive controls for recurring issues.
  • Working familiarity with observability and troubleshooting workflows using tools such as Kibana, Splunk, and Dynatrace.
  • Advanced understanding of agile methodologies and modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, data).
  • In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and its IT systems.
  • Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., for coding, code review, test acceleration, troubleshooting) with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices

Preferred qualifications, skills, and capabilities

  • Experience supporting and stabilizing QA/UAT/performance environments, including structured health checks, environment readiness, and batch monitoring.
  • SRE or operations-oriented engineering mindset, with a track record of improving reliability through automation, observability, and measurable reduction of recurring incidents.
  • Strong experience with monitoring, dashboards, and alerting practices, including maintaining actionable dashboards and validating signal quality over time.
  • Experience with microservices architecture, containerization, and event-driven systems.
  • Automation and scripting experience, including maintaining and improving operational scripts and health-check frameworks.
  • Prior experience in consumer banking domains such as payments, cards, digital, home lending, or wealth management.
