The position is located in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO). If selected for this position you will serve as USAO Grand Jury Coordinator and also as a senior legal assistant responsible for directly and independently supporting Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) by providing a wide variety of technical assistance· services related to complex grand jury actions and matters. The work requires a specialized knowledge of the laws, regulations, processes, procedures and practices of grand jury activities, knowledge of clerical and administrative office skills and an ability to apply these skills to increase the effectiveness of the assigned AUSAs. Typical duties include; Provide technical advice to lower graded support staff regarding procedures and processing requirements of grand jury activities and cases. Make extensive searches of records, references or historical material. Provide verbal and written instructions to attorneys, support staff and new law enforcement officers as to the various procedures. Conduct legal research on grand jury matters using the grand jury manual and other legal and/or on-line references. Establish and maintain monthly calendar of grand jury activities including criminal hearings and related matters. Compile trial notebooks, assembling jury instructions and compiling witness and exhibit lists. Review incoming material and determine the need for correspondence and legal documents such as motions, orders, pleadings and subpoenas. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
