About the role:
We are looking for a pragmatic, business-oriented Legal Counsel with strong practical US legal experience to join our legal team and support our international operations. In this role, you will work closely with our Global Legal Counsel and business teams to provide practical legal guidance, primarily focusing on US commercial law, commercial contracts, data privacy, AI governance, and regulatory aspects of clinical research.
Our organization operates in the clinical research ecosystem, helping pharmaceutical companies and research organizations recruit and engage patients for clinical trials through digital platforms and global patient communities.
This role offers the opportunity to work on US and international commercial contracts, privacy and AI-related legal questions, and clinical research and digital health regulations, while contributing to the development of an efficient and modern legal function that leverages AI, LegalTech, automation and knowledge management tools.
As a Legal Counsel (f/m/d), you would be responsible for:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating US and international commercial agreements with customers, partners, and service providers, including SaaS, service, cooperation and vendor agreements.
- Providing practical legal advice on US commercial law and contract matters, including contracts influenced by or governed by US law.
- Advising internal stakeholders on data privacy and data protection, including GDPR and relevant US privacy frameworks.
- Conducting and supporting privacy and AI-related legal and risk assessments.
- Supporting the legal team in navigating clinical research, patient recruitment, digital health and patient data processing matters.
- Supporting IRB and Ethics Committee matters and building reusable regulatory knowledge for the business.
- Helping translate recurring legal questions into playbooks, templates, FAQs and practical decision frameworks.
- Supporting the development of efficient legal processes using AI, LegalTech, automation and knowledge management tools.
- Monitoring developments in US commercial law, privacy, AI regulation, clinical research and digital health and translating them into practical guidance.
We would like you to have:
- Law degree or equivalent legal qualification (e.g., LL.M., Diplom-Jurist, Wirtschaftsjurist, or comparable).
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.
- Strong practical experience with US law, particularly US commercial law and US commercial contracts.
- Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements in an international environment.
- Native or near-native English proficiency, with excellent written and spoken English and strong legal drafting skills.
- Experience with data privacy and privacy-related legal or risk assessments.
- Strong analytical and drafting skills with a pragmatic, solution-oriented and business-minded approach.
- Ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear, practical and commercially workable solutions.
- Interest in AI, automation, LegalTech and knowledge management.
- Experience in clinical research, healthcare, life sciences, digital health, IRB or Ethics Committee matters is highly desirable.
