Legal Counsel - Privacy
What you’ll be doing:
- Provide practical privacy law advice to the Australian business.
- Develop and implement privacy policies, procedures and training predominantly in the Australian business.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments and report on risks.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments and take corrective action when necessary.
- Investigate and respond to privacy incidents.
- Work closely the Risk and Data teams and with a group of Privacy Champions across the business.
- Stay up to date with privacy laws and regulations and assist with implementing changes required as a result of law reforms.
- Liaise with overseas privacy functions as needed.
What we’re looking for:
- Demonstrated inclusive and interpersonal attributes that connect you to our behaviours (we change the game, we own it, we step in, we are curious, we don’t take ourselves too seriously).
- 4-5 PQE+ experience as a lawyer, including strong experience in the privacy space.
- Unrestricted Australian practising certificate.
- Experience in contract drafting and negotiation.
- Sound knowledge of recent and upcoming privacy-related reforms.
- Ability to create privacy training material.
- Ability to manage privacy-related compliance activities.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with data mapping tools or consent management platforms viewed favourably.
- Exposure to international jurisdictions, international privacy compliance and frameworks (particularly GDPR and CCPA), artificial intelligence and technology businesses viewed favourably.
- Experience with privacy audits, gap analysis and follow-up, together with privacy tools and practices viewed favourably.
