Description

About Gallagher

At Gallagher, we're in the business of protecting what matters most. From world-leading security technology to innovative animal management solutions, we're a global business with a lot happening behind the scenes.

We're looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel – Procurement to join our Legal team in Hamilton. This is an opportunity to step into a varied in-house role, working alongside teams across the business and helping shape the commercial relationships and agreements that keep our operations moving.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Global Legal Lead – Shared Services, you’ll provide high-quality, commercially focused legal advice across technology procurement, key supplier agreements and contract manufacturing. This is an opportunity to combine hands-on contracting with practical business partnership across Gallagher Group.

This isn't a role where you'll simply review contracts and tick boxes. You'll get involved early, understand the commercial drivers behind the deal and help the business find practical ways forward while protecting Gallagher's interests.

Your work will cover an interesting mix of:

  • Technology & IT: Drafting and negotiating SaaS, cloud, software licensing, implementation and professional services agreements, and working with Privacy and Information Security to make sure vendors meet our security and privacy requirements.

  • Strategic suppliers: Supporting key supplier relationships and agreements covering components, materials and services, including pricing, warranties, liability and supply continuity, through onboarding, renewals, variations and disputes.

  • Manufacturing: Negotiating contract manufacturing arrangements, and protecting Gallagher's intellectual property, confidential information and product specifications.

You'll also have the opportunity to improve contracting processes, develop templates and playbooks, support supplier negotiations and help the wider business navigate commercial risk with confidence.

There's plenty of variety, meaningful stakeholder exposure and scope to influence how we do things.

The Fit

You'll be a commercially astute lawyer who enjoys getting close to the business. Someone who can navigate complexity, see the bigger picture and translate legal considerations into advice that people can actually use.

You'll bring confidence to negotiations, sound judgement and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders who have different priorities. Just as importantly, you'll know when to challenge, when to find a compromise and when to jump on a call for a conversation.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • An LLB and current New Zealand practising certificate

  • 5+ years' post-admission legal experience

  • Strong commercial contracting and negotiation experience, either in-house or in private practice

  • Exposure to technology, IT, procurement, supply or contract manufacturing agreements

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

  • A practical, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to work autonomously

  • Exposure to AI legal tools, and experience in establishing templates and playbooks.

Experience working with global suppliers, cross-border agreements or technology and operational teams would be advantageous.

Why Gallagher?

This is a chance to join a business where your advice will have real commercial impact. You'll be part of a values-driven organisation that backs its people, encourages innovation and sees legal as an important enabler of business success.

And there's plenty more to enjoy about being part of Gallagher:

  • Flexible working arrangements and a supportive, office-first environment

  • Free onsite parking and a subsidised café

  • Life and Disability Insurance

  • Annual incentive opportunities

  • Wellbeing initiatives and staff benefits

  • Opportunities to grow your career within a privately owned, global organisation

If you're looking for an in-house legal role with variety, interesting commercial challenges and the opportunity to work alongside a business that gets things done, we'd love to hear from you.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and the role may be filled prior to the advert closing. If this opportunity sounds like a fit for you, we’d love to hear from you.
