Shape the Future of a Global Real Estate Portfolio

State Street is seeking a seasoned real estate attorney to serve as a strategic legal partner to our Global Realty Services organization. This role offers the opportunity to lead legal support for a complex global real estate portfolio spanning approximately 6.5 million square feet across more than 100 locations in 34 countries throughout the Americas, EMEA and APAC.

As the Legal Manager, VP, you will advise senior business leaders on the legal, regulatory, and risk implications of enterprise real estate decisions that support State Street's global workforce and operations. You will play a key role in enabling business strategy while ensuring sound governance, risk management, and compliance across diverse jurisdictions.

Why This Role Is Different

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as the principal legal advisor to Global Realty Services on a broad range of global real estate matters, including office leasing, landlord-tenant disputes, and property acquisitions.
  • Lead legal strategy and risk assessment for transactions supporting one of the industry's most significant corporate real estate portfolios.
  • Partner with senior leaders across Real Estate, Finance, Procurement, Technology, Compliance, Corporate Strategy, and Legal.
  • Drive legal support for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, and integration initiatives affecting the firm's real estate footprint.
  • Influence global standards, governance frameworks, and best practices that support real estate operations worldwide.
  • Manage and direct external law firms across multiple jurisdictions while ensuring quality, consistency, and cost efficiency.

What You'll Do

Strategic Real Estate Advisory

Provide practical, business-focused legal counsel on:

  • Leasing and occupancy strategies
  • Acquisitions and dispositions
  • Portfolio optimization initiatives
  • Corporate restructuring activities
  • Real estate risk management and governance

Global Transaction Leadership

Lead legal execution and negotiation of complex domestic and international real estate transactions, balancing commercial objectives with legal and regulatory requirements.

Enterprise Risk Management

Identify and mitigate legal, regulatory, operational, and reputational risks associated with State Street's global real estate footprint while delivering thoughtful, solutions-oriented recommendations.

Mergers & Acquisitions Support

Act as the lead legal representative for Global Realty Services on M&A transactions, directing real estate due diligence, integration planning, risk assessments, and deal-related decision support.

Stakeholder Leadership

Build trusted relationships with business and legal leaders globally and serve as a key advisor on matters involving real estate strategy, governance, compliance, and operational execution.

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will combine strong legal expertise with business judgment, executive presence, and the ability to influence outcomes across a complex global organization. They will be comfortable navigating ambiguity, balancing competing priorities, and partnering with stakeholders across regions and functions to deliver solutions that enable business growth while effectively managing risk.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 5+ years of legal experience with significant commercial real estate responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience leading sophisticated real estate transactions and negotiations.
  • Strong understanding of risk management, governance, and regulatory considerations impacting corporate real estate activities.
  • In-house legal experience supporting corporate real estate functions.
  • Experience advising multinational organizations with complex global real estate portfolios.
  • Exposure to mergers and acquisitions, integration projects, or corporate restructuring initiatives.
  • Experience managing external counsel across multiple jurisdictions.
  • International real estate transaction experience.

Salary Range:

$110,000 - $200,000 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
