Low Voltage Structured Cabling Tech (34206)

Position Overview:

The Low-Voltage Structured Cabling Field Technician works under the direction of a Project Superintendent, Project Foreman, or Lead Technician to support the installation and deployment of structured cabling systems in commercial environments. This position is responsible for the installation, termination, labeling, testing, and troubleshooting of low-voltage infrastructure while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, professionalism, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

· Install, terminate, label, test, and document copper and fiber-optic cabling systems in commercial facilities.

· Assist with MDF and IDF buildouts, including rack installation, equipment mounting, cable management, patch panel installation, and cable terminations.

· Read and interpret floor plans, riser diagrams, blueprints, and project specifications to ensure accurate and compliant installations.

· Perform cable testing and troubleshooting, including continuity verification, certification support, and fault isolation.

· Maintain organized documentation, labeling, and installation records in accordance with project requirements and company standards.

· Ensure all installations meet customer requirements, project specifications, CEC quality standards, and industry best practices.

· Learn, understand, and apply applicable ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and manufacturer installation standards.

· Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas while adhering to all company and jobsite safety policies.

· Collaborate effectively with supervisors, project team members, customers, and other trades to complete projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Qualifications and Requirements:

· 0-2 years of experience in structured cabling, low-voltage systems, telecommunications, or related construction trades. Trade school graduates and individuals with hands-on experience are encouraged to apply.

· Basic knowledge of copper and fiber-optic cabling systems and industry installation practices.

· Ability to work comfortably at heights using ladders, lifts, and scaffolding, as well as in confined spaces such as above-ceiling environments and crawl spaces.

· Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

· Strong work ethic, dependability, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.

· Proficiency with basic hand tools, including punch-down tools, crimpers, cable strippers, and termination tools.

· Experience with cable testing equipment is preferred but not required.

· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor throughout the workday.

· Ability to pass background checks, drug screenings, or site-specific requirements when required by customers.

· High school diploma, GED, trade school certification, or equivalent experience preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

· This position requires working in a variety of environments and conditions, which may include exposure to heat, cold, rain, dust, noise, and other weather-related elements depending on the jobsite location and time of year. Employees are required to wear all mandated personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility apparel, and other safety equipment as required by company policy or jobsite requirements. Respiratory protection may be required for certain tasks or work environments.

· The position regularly requires working 8-10 hours per day and 40 or more hours per week, including overtime, weekend work, and night shifts as required by project schedules. Employees must be capable of performing physically demanding work, including standing, walking, climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending, stooping, reaching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment throughout the workday.

· The employee must be able to routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift heavier objects with assistance or proper lifting equipment. Repetitive use of hands, wrists, arms, and fingers is required for the installation, termination, and testing of cabling systems. The position also requires the ability to perform overhead work for extended periods and to work from ladders, scaffolding, or personnel lifts when necessary. Physical labor and field-related activities comprise a significant portion of the job responsibilities.

· Employees must possess the ability to distinguish wire and cable colors accurately. The ability to read construction drawings, labels, and technical documentation is also required.

· Work may be performed in occupied office spaces, data centers, industrial facilities, warehouses, healthcare environments, educational facilities, and active construction sites. Employees may be exposed to typical construction-related hazards and conditions, including uneven walking surfaces, confined spaces, elevated work areas, and temporary jobsite facilities.
