Te whiwhinga mahi - Our opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Manager - Data Engineering to lead the delivery, operation, and continuous evolution of Kāinga Ora’s enterprise data engineering capability. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for ensuring our data platforms, pipelines, and analytics environments are reliable, secure, scalable, and capable of delivering timely insights that support business outcomes across the organisation.

As a leader within our Digital IT function, you will drive the development of modern data engineering practices, oversee critical data platforms, and ensure our data capabilities continue to meet the growing needs of the business.


Working closely with Technology Operations, Architecture & Security, Data, Integration, and business teams, you will ensure data platforms are resilient, secure, cost-effective, and capable of supporting current and future organisational needs.

We're looking for a collaborative and technically strong leader who can combine strategic thinking with operational excellence. Your leadership and excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships across technical and business teams will be key to your success in this role.


Here’s what you will bring to the role:

  • Proven experience leading and developing high performing data engineering and data platform teams within complex enterprise environments
  • Experience managing enterprise data platforms and environments, ensuring stability, performance, and continuous improvement
  • Strong knowledge of modern data platforms, data platforms operations, cloud-based data services, data pipelines, and data integration technologies
  • Expertise in data engineering practices, governance, security, operational support, and platform lifecycle management
  • Experience delivering highly available, secure, and scalable data solutions that support organisational decision-making\
  • Strong understanding of operational management, service delivery, SLAs, incident management, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning
  • A passion for continuous improvement and enabling data-driven outcomes.
