Role Purpose:

The Body Construction Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, and optimization of vehicle body structures and assembly processes (Body-In-White). This role requires collaboration with cross-functional engineering groups to shape long-term production strategies, optimize manufacturing environments, and scale vehicle assembly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Equipment and Process Development: Develop, implement, and validate scalable automotive body assembly equipment, tools, and manufacturing processes.
  • Factory Layout and Planning: Lead block planning and concept facility layouts to optimize floor space, material flow, and utility routing.
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Collaborate with Vehicle Engineering during early design phases to influence product architecture and ensure seamless manufacturability.
  • Core Assembly Technologies: Serve as the technical subject matter expert for automated framing, structural adhesive dispensing, dissimilar metal joining, and mechanical fastening.
  • Process Documentation: Create, update, and manage critical process documentation, including standard operating procedures, process failure mode and effect analysis (PFMEA), and Control Plans.
  • Vendor Management: Act as the primary technical liaison with external toolmakers and equipment integrators to oversee equipment validation and final commissioning.
  • Technical Standards and Mentorship: Establish and uphold manufacturing standards, providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers as the department grows.---

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience: 10–15+ years of professional experience in automotive Body-in-White (BIW) manufacturing engineering.
  • Deep expertise in advanced automotive joining technologies, automated framing systems.
  • Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and using CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines) or laser scanning for precision validation.
  • Development of PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), Control Plans, and Process Sheets.
  • Experience developing RFQs for framing cells and fixtures, including vendor buyoffs and integration with robotics and conveyors.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for process feasibility studies and fixture design reviews.
  • Ability to conduct cycle time and downtime analysis to drive shop-floor efficiency.

The salary range for this position is dependent upon experience, education, and qualifications.
