Market Vice President, South, HMT
JOB SUMMARY
The Market Vice President is a key member of the regional leadership team and serves as the operational business leader for the assigned market. The role has responsibility for managed Premium and Select hotels, and franchise hotels limited to Premium brands only. The role is responsible for leading market-level hotel performance, ensuring the implementation and execution of brand strategies, service standards, and key business initiatives with the objective of meeting or exceeding guest, associate, owner, and financial expectations.
This position partners closely with the Regional Vice President, property General Managers, discipline leaders, and regional and continent support teams to influence overall hotel performance across financial, customer, associate, owner, and operational measures. The Market Vice President provides leadership, resources, and guidance to drive market-wide operational excellence, balanced scorecard results, talent development, owner engagement, and effective execution of business priorities.
The role also serves as a principal interface with owners and key stakeholders, balancing owner interests with Marriott International’s business objectives. The Market Vice President is expected to anticipate market trends and business risks, identify opportunities for improvement and growth, deploy regional and continent resources effectively across the market, and ensure that the market has the right strategies and support in place to deliver sustainable performance.
The Market Vice President is accountable for market-level leadership beyond individual property oversight, including direct accountability for multi-property performance, issue escalation, disciplined execution of priorities, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion, compliance, and continuous improvement.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
Required
• Degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Hospitality Management or related major
• 10+ years of progressive hotel operations experience, including Operations Leadership roles or General Manager assignments; multi-unit responsibility preferred.
• Excellent food and beverage, event management, rooms operations, revenue management, human resources, and quality assurance skills, including experience with strategic planning, budgeting, negotiating and interpreting contracts, SOPs, and project management.
• Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a matrix organization and leverage property, regional, continent, and centralized corporate resources.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver results in adverse conditions and make sound decisions when faced with complexity and ambiguity.
• Experience evaluating business trends and risks and successfully developing and implementing strategies that enhance multi-unit business performance while mitigating business concerns.
• Track record of creating positive and influential owner relationships and effectively balancing owner, property, and company priorities.
• Proven success in talent management, leadership development, performance management, and manpower decisions at senior property or market level.
• Strong financial management and analytical capability, including ability to analyze P&L statements, develop operating budgets, review forecasts, and evaluate capital expenditure plans.
• Strong communication, influence, consensus building, negotiation, problem-solving, change management, coaching, associate relations, and customer relations skills.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, business judgment, and willingness to travel frequently across the assigned market.

• Maintains brand standards and drives brand differentiation for assigned lodging brands within the market.
• Utilizes property, regional, continent, and centralized corporate services to ensure operational excellence and effective execution of key initiatives.
• Conducts comparative analyses and gathers and shares best practices to improve efficiency, productivity, and performance in hotel operations across the market.
• Collaborates on new hotel development while ensuring appropriate attention is given to current operations and market readiness.
• Delivers balanced scorecard results across the assigned market scope, including managed Premium and Select hotels and franchise hotels limited to Premium brands only, and ensures market-level customer engagement and guest satisfaction goals are supported by clear action plans.
• Identifies and implements solutions that increase operational effectiveness, strengthen compliance, and improve speed to market.
• Serves as the market-level escalation point for operational, owner, performance, and execution issues that require regional alignment, resource coordination, or cross-property resolution.
Talent Management
• Approves property and market employee engagement goals and total compensation strategies and ensures action plans are being executed.
• Partners with the Regional Vice President on the selection, development, performance management, and transition of property General Managers.
• Develops bench strength for General Manager level and provides formal and informal coaching and mentoring for current and high-potential future GM talent.
• Supports market-level talent planning, leadership capability building, succession readiness, and associate engagement strategies in partnership with Human Resources and regional leadership.
Sales and Revenue Management
• Reviews sales goals and strategies across the market to ensure alignment with brand business strategy and proper pricing and positioning of each property.
• Develops effective revenue management strategies and sets goals that drive market financial performance, profitable revenue growth, and RevPAR index improvement.
• Monitors and communicates changes in market conditions, forecasts, demand patterns, and competitive dynamics to relevant stakeholders.
• Leverages continent and market sales engines, distribution channels, commercial tools, and proactive sales activities to generate demand and support market performance.
• Provides input into property and market sales deployment, account coverage, business mix, and channel performance to exceed budgeted targets.
• Partners with Revenue Management, Sales, Marketing, Digital, Loyalty, and Finance leaders to align commercial strategies and optimize total hotel revenue.
Financial Management
• Has full P&L accountability for hotels within the assigned market scope, including managed Premium and Select hotels, and oversees financial performance expectations for franchise hotels limited to Premium brands only, as applicable.
• Partners with the Regional Vice President and Finance leadership to conduct property-level financial critiques and ensure appropriate follow-up actions are implemented.
• Reviews and supports approval of property operating budgets, forecasts, capital expenditure plans, and business plans in partnership with regional leadership and Finance.
• Develops and drives strategies to improve property financial performance, including revenue growth, cost containment, productivity, and profitability.
• Collaborates with Revenue Management, Sales and Marketing, Operations, and Finance to effectively manage P&L and deliver balanced financial outcomes.
• Directs capital expenditure priorities toward initiatives aligned with brand strategy, asset positioning, guest experience, compliance, and long-term owner value.
• Partners with owners, asset managers, Finance, and discipline leaders on asset plans, investment priorities, property improvement opportunities, and business cases that support long-term asset value and brand positioning.
Owner Relations
• Establishes and maintains strong relationships with owners, asset managers, and key stakeholders across the market.
• Manages an effective balance between owner interests and Marriott International interests while supporting strong business results and contract compliance.
• Builds owner and asset manager loyalty through proactive communication, expectation setting, problem solving, business reviews, and delivery of solid market, property, and asset performance.
• Maintains knowledge of management agreements, owner obligations, loan agreement requirements, reporting expectations, and market-specific contractual considerations.
• Partners with owners and asset managers on asset management priorities, including asset performance, property positioning, capital investment needs, renovation priorities, and opportunities to enhance owner value.
• Serves as the first level of escalation for owner and asset management issues that cannot or should not be resolved at the property level and escalates to regional leadership as appropriate.
