Marketing Data Engineer

Summary

Build and maintain a marketing data platform that ingests and standardizes data from digital ads, agencies, and analytics tools to power marketing analytics and performance measurement.

Location: Sydney, 3 days onsite. Type: Initial 6-month day rate contract

Profusion's Financial Services client is building a foundational marketing data platform from the ground up — one that will ingest, standardise and consolidate data from across their digital marketing and agency ecosystem to power the next generation of marketing analytics.

They're looking for an experienced Data Engineer who thrives on building robust, scalable data infrastructure and wants to make a tangible impact on how a marketing function understands and measures performance.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build automated data ingestion pipelines from a range of marketing sources, including:
  • Other digital advertising systems
  • Agency-provided datasets and reports
  • Architect scalable ETL/ELT frameworks that can grow with the business
  • Manage varying refresh cadences — daily, weekly and monthly — reliably and at scale
  • Build data quality rules, validation checks and monitoring
  • Implement data transformation and enrichment processes
  • Lay the groundwork for future initiatives such as marketing performance measurement and Marketing Mix Modelling (MMM)

What You Bring

Must-haves:

  • 7+ years of data engineering experience
  • Strong SQL skills, including query optimisation
  • Proven experience building API-based integrations
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (BigQuery and Cloud Storage preferred)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with marketing data platforms
  • Direct experience with Google Ads, GA4, Meta or Adobe data
  • Exposure to customer analytics
  • Understanding of marketing attribution and campaign reporting

What You'll Deliver

  • An automated, production-grade ingestion framework
  • Clear data catalogue and documentation
  • A practical data quality framework

Why Join

This is a rare opportunity to build a marketing data platform from the ground up rather than inherit legacy infrastructure — shaping the standards, architecture and best practices that will underpin marketing analytics for years to come.
