Mechanical Design Engineer

Open 52d

We're Hiring: Mechanical Design Engineer

Full-Time | Core Team

LAT Aerospace | Cross - Program

LAT Aerospace is developing next-generation aerospace systems from first principles. This includes a hybrid electric aircraft that takes off and lands within a space of a parking lot, Defence systems built from ground up and scalable Gas Turbine Engines.

The Mechanical Design Engineer role is a highly hands-on one. You will work across programs and design everything from aircraft mechanisms and propulsion hardware to test rigs, fixtures, and one-off mechanisms. The ideal candidate would enjoy solving new mechanical problems and turning ideas into working hardware quickly.

What you'll do

  • Design mechanical components, assemblies, mechanisms, fixtures, test rigs, and support hardware across LAT's programs.

  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, 2D drawings, and manufacturing documentation.

  • Translate engineering requirements and concepts into robust, manufacturable mechanical designs.

  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) across machining, composites, additive manufacturing, and other processes.

  • Design mechanisms, joints, mounts, actuators, linkages, and other moving systems.

  • Perform tolerance analysis, interference checks, and fit/function reviews for complex assemblies.

  • Work closely with engineers, technicians, machinists, vendors, and manufacturing teams to take designs from CAD to physical hardware.

  • Iterate designs rapidly based on prototype builds, testing, and failure investigation.

  • Own BOMs, drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation for assigned hardware.

  • Maintain and organize CAD and engineering data within our database and across life cycle.

What we're looking for

  • Minimum 3 years of industrial experience working on complex mechanisms, actuations, linkages or rotating machineries.

  • Strong fundamentals in mechanical design, machine design, materials, and manufacturing processes applicable on aerospace systems and test rigs.

  • Proficiency with industry-standard CAD software, Configuration management and PDM/PLM systems.

  • Strong understanding of DFM/DFA and manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal, composites, welding, and additive manufacturing.

  • Familiarity with GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.

  • Ability to read and create detailed engineering drawings.

  • Hands-on experience taking hardware through concept design, rapid prototyping, manufacturing, assembly and testing.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make practical engineering trade-offs based on FEA and engineering analysis.

Why LAT?

  • No hierarchy beyond strength of ideas.

  • Rapid hardware iteration culture.

  • Opportunity to build next-generation aerospace technology from the ground up.
