Mechanical Engineering Lead
to take ownership of mechanical systems delivery for
data centre new build and infrastructure fit-out projects
. The Role
As the Mechanical Engineering Lead, you will provide technical leadership across design, construction, and commissioning. You will advise on engineering design decisions, constructability, risk, and performance, ensuring mechanical systems are delivered to the highest technical and operational standards. This is a senior, hands-on role suited to a self-starter who is comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams and engaging directly with consultants, contractors, and stakeholders. Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & Engineering Leadership Lead the design, development, and implementation of
mechanical systems
for data centre new build and infrastructure fit-out projects
Prepare and review
mechanical specifications, technical drawings, and construction documentation
, including HVAC, piping, and equipment layouts
Evaluate and select mechanical equipment and systems to ensure
performance, redundancy, and constructability
Perform and review
HVAC load calculations, airflow analysis, and energy modelling
to optimise system efficiency and resilience
Assess design options and conduct
feasibility studies and cost analyses
, proposing value-driven improvements where appropriate
Construction & Commissioning Support Provide technical leadership during construction, including
review of contractor submittals, RFIs, and design clarifications
Conduct site inspections to ensure works comply with design intent, specifications, and applicable codes
Support and participate in
commissioning, testing, and integrated systems validation
Troubleshoot mechanical and HVAC system issues to ensure readiness for operations and handover
Stakeholder & Project Collaboration Collaborate closely with
architects, engineers, project managers, and client stakeholders
to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly into the overall project
Act as a key technical interface between the client, consultants, and contractors
Ensure mechanical systems align with
operational, maintenance, and lifecycle requirements
Continuous Improvement Stay current with
industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies
in data centre mechanical and HVAC systems
Apply best practices in
energy efficiency, sustainability, and system resilience
to improve design and delivery outcomes
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in
Mechanical Engineering
or related discipline
10+ years
of experience designing and managing mechanical systems for
data centre new build and infrastructure fit-out projects
Strong experience in
HVAC systems
, including chillers, cooling towers, AHUs, control systems, and redundancy strategies
Experience with
plumbing, piping, and fire protection systems
Professional Engineer (PE) licence is preferred
Proficient in tools such as
AutoCAD, Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore
, or similar platforms
Strong understanding of
codes, standards, and best practices
for mission-critical mechanical systems
Experience with
