Mechanical Technician
Summary
Installs, maintains, and repairs mechanical systems and equipment in a shipyard or heavy-industrial setting, reading technical drawings and following safety protocols.
Responsibilities:
- Installing and maintaining Mechanical systems, equipment, and devices.
- Reading and understanding P&ID, general arrangement drawing, technical manual.
- Repairing or replacing equipment, fixtures, and mechanical parts.
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing issues.
- Understand Mechanical Commissioning process and operation of machinery.
- Identifying faults in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to lift heavy components and work in challenging environments (e.g. confined spaces).
- Analysing equipment failures and determining effective, fast repairs.
- Good Attitude, Teamwork player. Problem-solving.
- Strict compliance with yard HSE and safety regulations, including
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Knowing how to operate, maintain and repair machinery, using technical tools, understanding engineering principles
Requirements
- NITEC, Higher NITEC, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience as a Mechanical Technician in the marine, offshore, shipyard, oil & gas, or heavy industrial sector.
- Hands-on experience in the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, and machinery.
- Able to read and interpret P&IDs, General Arrangement (GA) drawings, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and equipment documentation.
- Experience in mechanical commissioning, equipment alignment, function testing, and machinery start-up activities.
- Good understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, including fault diagnosis and repair.
- Knowledge of pumps, compressors, valves, engines, gearboxes, and other mechanical equipment is an advantage.
- Skilled in using mechanical hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and maintenance equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify equipment failures and carry out effective repairs.
- Physically fit and able to lift heavy components, work at heights, and work in confined spaces when required.
- Good understanding of HSE requirements and strict compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and yard safety regulations.
- Willing to work at Tuas Boulevard Yard.
- Able to commence work on short notice or immediately preferred.
