Summary
A medior backend developer builds and maintains Java Spring Boot services and REST APIs for a client project (public sector/Flemish Government context) in Mechelen, Belgium. Day to day: coding, testing, debugging, and independent application maintenance within an Agile team, plus some TypeScript frontend work.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain high-quality backend services using Java and modern frameworks.
- Design and implement robust REST APIs for various system integrations.
- Perform thorough coding, testing, and debugging to ensure software excellence.
- Execute application maintenance and troubleshooting independently to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate within an Agile environment to deliver incremental value and maintain code quality.
Requirements
- 3+ years of backend development experience with Java, J2EE, and Spring Boot.
- 3+ years of experience with the implementation and management of REST APIs.
- Experience with frontend development using TypeScript.
- Proficiency in database querying and management with SQL.
- You possess a formal certification in Java or equivalent through professional experience.
- You are fluent in Dutch with a C2 level of proficiency.
Nice to Haves
- Experience with React for frontend development.
- Knowledge of Bamboo, Helm charts, and Atlassian Tools like Jira and Confluence.
- Experience developing applications that utilize geospatial data.
- Previous professional experience within the public sector or Flemish Government.
- Experience working with Agile methodologies and performing independent code maintenance.
