Mental Health Technician

Summary

Helps manage and treat client behavioral health activities to support SOF personnel, working under the authority and supervision of a licensed provider.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intakes and assist with care of psychiatric, drug and alcohol clients; counsel clients with personal, behavioral or psychological problems.
• Observe clients, detect behavior patterns and report to licensed staff.
• Lead prescribed individual or group therapy sessions under a licensed professional's guidance.
• Depending on location: administer psychological and psychophysiological tests and prepare reports under supervision.
• Maintain databases and monthly statistics; prepare correspondence and attendance rosters.
• Develop appointment templates, manage supplies and recommend efficiency improvements.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or comparable training (military mental health technician/specialist training satisfies).
• Training covering psychology or social work foundations and de-escalation of agitated, violent or suicidal individuals.
• Training to intervene with or restrain violent or suicidal clients (may be completed after hire, before such duties).

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 3 years of experience as a mental health technician.

Additional Requirements

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Document all encounters in HPDMS per USSOCOM Directive 10-12.
• For embedded field positions, where the task order requires: meet SOF training physical demands (hiking rough terrain, austere environments, aircraft and watercraft) and lift up to 25 kg.
• Maintain 100% compliance with local mandatory command training.
