Position Summary:
We are building an MEP design team in Egypt to produce design packages for our US project portfolio, and we are looking for the MEP Design Manager who will lead it. The immediate priorities of the position are hiring, setting up BIM and quality-control workflows, and establishing delivery quality with our US offices, before moving on to managing a growing design portfolio across concurrent US projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Build-Up & Leadership: Recruit, lead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary MEP design team covering mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection.
- Project & Resource Management: Manage assignments, resource loading, schedules, budgets and deliverable dates across concurrent projects, and escalate technical or schedule risk early with a proposed resolution.
- Design Review & Technical Quality: Review drawings, calculations, specifications and technical submissions before issue to the project team or the client.
- US Code Compliance: Own compliance of all output with IBC, IMC, IPC, NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE and applicable US energy codes, alongside client and authority requirements, and keep the team current as those codes are revised.
- Procedures & BIM Standards: Establish design, quality-control, BIM coordination and project-delivery procedures for the Egypt team and keep Revit standards consistent with our US practice.
- Cross-Office Coordination: Act as the single technical point of contact between the Egypt team and our US offices, running daily coordination across the time difference and keeping design intent, comments and revisions aligned between locations.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum 12 years in MEP design, including at least 5 years managing a design team.
- Technical Domain: Demonstrated delivery of multidisciplinary MEP and fire protection design packages, with direct experience managing engineers across more than one discipline.
- Codes & Standards: Working knowledge of US codes and standards, including IBC, IMC, IPC, NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE and applicable energy codes.
- Tools: Advanced Revit and AutoCAD, BIM coordination workflows, and a design-management or document-control system.
- Communication: Excellent written and spoken English, sufficient to run technical discussions with US-based project teams and clients without support.
- Working Hours: Availability for a fixed daily overlap window with US teams, which operate eight to ten hours behind Egypt.
Nice-To-Have Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent professional registration.
- Experience delivering US-based projects from an offshore or remote design office.
- Experience on US federal or US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects.
- Experience with LEED documentation or commissioning-led design review.
- Experience setting up a new design office or engineering function.
