Network Implementation Engineer

General Summary of Position:

The Network Implementation Engineer architects and deploys Granite's managed multi-vendor network, security, and voice solutions for enterprise customers.

The role combines network and security architecture, hands-on implementation, customer engagement, troubleshooting, and technical documentation. Engineers will work across Fortinet, Cisco, Meraki, and SD-WAN platforms while contributing to Granite's reference architectures, standards, and automation initiatives.

This is a highly customer-facing role, with a significant portion of the workday spent on customer calls, design reviews, implementation bridges, and coordination with sales engineering, project management, field technicians, carriers, vendors, and the NOC.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead customer-facing technical engagements from requirements gathering and solution design through implementation, troubleshooting, and validation
• Spend approximately 50% of the workday on customer calls, leading discovery sessions, design reviews, implementation kickoffs, readiness reviews, live cutover bridges, and technical troubleshooting, while coordinating with internal teams, field technicians, carriers, vendors, and the NOC
• Own technical delivery from requirements gathering and design through deployment, validation, and operational handoff
• Develop network designs, diagrams, IP addressing plans, configuration templates, and implementation documentation
• Design and implement routing architectures using BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP
• Design and implement SD-WAN topologies, traffic policies, and underlay/overlay strategies
• Design and implement firewall policies, VPNs, segmentation, access controls, and NAT
• Design and support VoIP services, including SIP trunking, voice VLANs, QoS policies, and SBC/SIP ALG configuration
• Configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, SD-WAN, wireless, and related technologies
• Develop high- and low-level designs, network diagrams, IP addressing plans, configuration templates, and bills of materials
• Maintain and improve Granite reference architectures, engineering standards, and technical documentation
• Support lab testing, proof-of-concept builds, and evaluation of new technologies
• Develop automation and scripting to improve configuration, deployment, and validation processes

Required Qualifications

• 3–6 years of experience in network and security engineering, network design, or implementation
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, NAT, DNS and routing protocols including BGP and OSPF
• Experience with VPN architectures, firewall policies, IPS/IDS, and SD-WAN
• Working knowledge of VoIP, including SIP, QoS, and voice traffic troubleshooting
• Experience with centralized management platforms such as FortiManager, Meraki Dashboard, or SD-WAN orchestrators
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including comfort participating in customer-facing discussions Comfort spending a large portion of the workday on the phone, including leading live customer calls and design discussions
• Strong verbal and presentation skills with technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects across customers
• Willingness to participate in after-hours maintenance windows on an as-needed basis

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Linux, command-line troubleshooting, or scripting (Python, Bash) for automation and operational workflows
• Familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools or basic penetration testing concepts
• Industry certifications or coursework toward certifications such as CCNA, NSE 4/5/6+, Security+, or equivalent
• Experience with multi-cloud networking (MCN), unified SASE and network function virtualization (NFV)
