Network Security Engineer
Migration Responsibilities & Scope
1. Planning and Design
Review network architecture, design documents, and migration requirements.
Validate switch hardware, software versions, licensing, and compatibility.
Develop implementation, migration, rollback, and testing plans.
Identify dependencies, risks, and outage requirements.
Coordinate with security, server, application, and operations teams.
2. Switch Build and Initial Configuration
Upgrade firmware/OS to approved versions.
Review and configure settings.
3. Security Configuration
Implement network security hardening in accordance with company standards.
Disable unused ports and services.
Ensure compliance with security and audit requirements.
4. Monitoring and Alerting Setup
Integrate switches with enterprise monitoring tools.
Ensure the following are configured and working as needed:
SNMP monitoring
Syslog forwarding
NetFlow/sFlow where applicable
Performance and capacity monitoring
Interface utilization monitoring
Environmental monitoring (temperature, power supply, fan status)
Configure operational alerts.
Validate that monitoring data is received by monitoring platforms.
5. Migration Execution
Perform pre-migration validation and health checks.
Backup existing switch configurations.
Execute migration according to the approved implementation plan.
Coordinate migration with application and infrastructure teams.
Minimize downtime and business impact.
6. Testing and Validation
Perform connectivity testing.
Resolve any issues identified during testing.
7. Documentation
Create and update:
Network diagrams
Switch configuration records
Port mappings
IP addressing documentation
Security configuration documentation
Monitoring and alerting configuration records
Maintain implementation and rollback procedures.
8. Post-Migration Support
Provide post-implementation monitoring and support.
Review logs and alerts for abnormalities.
Optimize configurations where required.
Conduct knowledge transfer to the operations team.
Obtain stakeholder sign-off after a successful migration.

Approved switch build configuration
Security hardening checklist completed
Monitoring and alerting integrated and tested
Configuration backup and rollback plan
Updated network diagrams and documentation
Migration report including validation results and sign-off
All required documents associated as part of release readiness
