Network Support Engineer

Position Overview

Skylark Information Technologies Private Limited is seeking an experienced and certified Onsite Networking L2 Support Engineer to manage, maintain, and troubleshoot the enterprise network, security infrastructure, and wireless campus deployment at the VIT Bhopal campus. The engineer will provide expert L2 technical support, ensure high network uptime, manage VLANs/routing, and enforce firewall and NAC security policies across the campus.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

A. Core & Edge Switching Management

• Switching Infrastructure: Configure, manage, and troubleshoot enterprise Core switches (Extreme and Aruba) and Edge switches (~190 switches total), ensuring high availability, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) optimization, and port security.
• VLAN & Routing: Manage VLAN configurations, trunking, inter-VLAN routing, link aggregation (LACP), and QoS policies across campus switches.

B. Wireless LAN & Access Point Operations

• Wireless Management: Administer campus-wide wireless networks managed by Aruba and Extreme Wireless Controllers, supporting over 2,600 Access Points (965 Aruba + 1,674 Extreme APs).
• RF & SSID Optimization: Monitor RF coverage, channel utilization, client roaming, SSID configurations, guest portal access, and wireless bandwidth optimization.

C. Network Security & Firewall Administration

• Firewall & WAF Operations: Manage Fortinet Firewalls, FortiWeb (WAF), and FortiAnalyzer, configuring security policies, NAT rules, IPsec/SSL VPN tunnels, and threat inspection.
• NAC & CPPM Management: Administer Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager (CPPM) for Network Access Control (NAC) supporting 20,000 endpoints, enforcing 802.1X authentication, profiling, and guest onboarding.

D. Incident Troubleshooting & Maintenance

• L2 Incident Resolution: Act as L2 escalation point for resolving complex network, security, and wireless outages, bottlenecks, and connectivity faults.
• Maintenance & Patching: Perform firmware upgrades, configuration backups, vulnerability patching, and routine preventive maintenance across switches, controllers, and firewalls.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain up-to-date network diagrams, IPam logs, change management records, and SLA reporting.

Required Qualifications & Technical Skills

• Experience: Minimum 3 to 6 years of hands-on experience in enterprise networking, campus wireless deployments, and firewall administration.
• Switching & Wireless: Strong hands-on proficiency in configuration and troubleshooting of Aruba and Extreme switching and wireless platforms.
• Security Expertise: Solid experience in Fortinet security solutions (FortiGate Firewall, FortiWeb, FortiAnalyzer).
• NAC / CPPM: Hands-on expertise in Aruba ClearPass (CPPM) NAC deployment, policy enforcement, and 802.1X authentication.
• Certifications: Relevant industry certifications (CCNA/CCNP, NSE4/NSE7, ACSP/ACMP) are highly preferred.
• Soft Skills: Excellent analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and readiness for onsite support delivery in a large educational campus.

Reporting & Work Location

• Work Location: VIT Bhopal University Campus, Madhya Pradesh (Onsite Deployment).
• Reporting To: Reporting directly to the Project Manager / Head of Network Infrastructure, Skylark Information Technologies Private Limited.
