Optometrist
The Optometrist will perform routine procedures using independent professional judgment in the practice of optometry, within the scope of the laws of the state of California, the rules and regulations of the California Board of Optometry, and the policies of Gracelight Community Health.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support and implement the organization’s vision, mission and values.
- Determine priorities and method of completing daily workload to ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely manner.
- Perform all job functions in a professional and courteous manner. This includes answering all phone calls and emails timely and providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Foster and promote a culture of service excellence and accountability.
- Examine the internal and external structure of the eyes to diagnose eye diseases like glaucoma, cataracts and retinal disorders; systemic diseases like hypertension and diabetes; and vision conditions like nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia. Optometrists also do testing to determine the patient’s ability to focus and coordinate eyes, and to judge depth and see colors accurately.
- Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, low vision aids, vision therapy and medicines to treat eye diseases. Refer appropriately where services are not provided by Gracelight Community Health or are outside scope of Optometrists.
- Examine and treat all patients scheduled to be seen by Optometry at Gracelight Community Health.
- Complete the patient’s charts in the Electronic Health Record system according to company policy.
- Participate in all departmental meetings.
- Supervise optical staff to ensure accurate services are given.
- Communicate with optical, support staff, management, and fellow OD teams to optimize quality and clinical care and service to patients.
- Maintain all licensing and job requirements (CE, CPR, safety training, PPD).
- Use discretion and judgment in handling sensitive or confidential information, answers all employee and client inquiries in a timely and courteous manner and listen to employee disputes and understands which decisions can be made alone and which decisions need to involve others.
- Comply with organizational policies and procedures.
