Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist - Per Diem - Hartford, CT (Two Openings)

Position Summary

Connecticut Children’s is Connecticut’s only dedicated heath care system dedicated to Children. It is an academic free standing Children’s Hospital affiliated with the University Of Connecticut School Of Medicine. The cardiovascular institute at Connecticut Children’s offers full range of cardiovascular services from neonates to adults. Complex interventional cardiology and zero X ray ablation, dedicated cardiac intensivist are among some of the highlights of our program. We have a newly developed fetal care center and our adult congenital heart disease program is accredited by adult congenital heart association.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Candidate should have the ability to lead a diverse group, to work with hospital and academic department partners using a collaborative approach, success in promoting scholarship and funding, and the ability to mentor young faculty

  1. Clinical responsibilities: Will include clinical time in the CVICU, working with multidisciplinary team, be part of team developing and implementation of care protocols.
  • Will be encouraged to actively participate in Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program.
  1. Educational responsibilities: Will include supervision, instruction, and mentoring of pediatric residents, and medical students, as well as dedicated CVICU advanced practice providers
  2. Research: Clinical research opportunities, development of research programs.
  3. Candidates will be strongly encouraged to initiate and/or be part of ongoing QI projects.

Future direction for Congenital Heart Program at Connecticut Children's Hospital (depending on interest) :

Candidate may choose to actively help support and develop

  1. Step down unit /intermediate unit to help provide continued safe care to cardiac patients in collaboration with the inpatient cardiologist team.
  2. Advanced heart failure
  3. Pediatric pulmonary hypertension.
  4. A ventricular assist device and heart transplant program.
  5. Neurodevelopment in patients with congenital cardiac disease and advanced technologies.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

MD or DO

Successful completion of an Accredited Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) accredited post-graduate training program in Critical Care

1 year advanced training in Cardiac Critical Care or Pediatric Cardiology with an additional year in CVICU/ CICU.

LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

Board Certification or eligibility in Pediatric Critical Care or Pediatric Cardiology with additional demonstrated training and or experience in Cardiac Critical Care.
