Description

  • You will be the first point of contact for the production workers at Franklin Shipyard, the welders, fitters, machinists, electricians, and technicians who build our vessels
  • You will keep the People Team’s day-to-day work running for the shipyard: answering questions, handling attendance paperwork, supporting new hires through onboarding, and keeping employee records accurate
  • This is an on-site, entry-level role for someone who is dependable, approachable, and detail-oriented, and who wants to learn HR operations by supporting people who work with their hands
  • You will work under close guidance, learn our policies, systems, and compliance requirements, and know when to bring in a senior member of the team
  • Perfect for someone passionate about both people and process
  • Be the front-line People Team contact for employees: answer day-to-day questions in person, by phone, and by email on pay, schedules, attendance, benefits, and policies, and direct employees to the right HR contact before issues go to senior team members
  • Help employees with password resets, timekeeping and badge access issues, and basic system troubleshooting
  • Manage medical documentation and attendance points: collect doctor’s notes from employees, maintain the attendance points report, and notify supervisors when points should be removed
  • Support onboarding and offboarding for new hires and departing employees, including first-day logistics, paperwork follow-up, and maintaining the onboarding tracker
  • Track and coordinate PPE and uniform needs, including vest sizes and safety boot communications, with the EHS and operations teams
  • Pull standard daily and weekly HR reports and share them with supervisors and the People Team on schedule
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential employee records and HR documentation (physical and digital)
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with employees across shifts and experience levels, and flag trends, recurring questions, or concerns to the People Team
  • Follow established procedures, check your work before submitting it, and ask for guidance before acting on sensitive issues such as workplace injuries, complaints, or discipline
  • Comfortable being on-site and available to support multiple shifts as needed
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with basic HR concepts and U.S. employment practices; willingness to learn compliance requirements
  • Friendly, approachable, and patient communicator who can build trust with skilled-trades and production employees
  • Strong attention to detail, with the habit of checking your own work before submitting
  • Comfortable asking for help, taking feedback, and following through on commitments in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with an HRIS, timekeeping, or badge systems is a plus
  • 2-4 years of experience in HR, People Operations, customer service, or administrative support; experience in a manufacturing, shipyard, or industrial setting is a plus
  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment
  • Visual acuity to read screens, documents, and reports
  • Occasional standing and walking within the office
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., office supplies, packages)
  • Occasional reaching, bending, or stooping to access file drawers, cabinets, or office supplies
  • If this role is based in the United States, it requires access to export-controlled information or items that require “U.S. Person” status. As defined by U.S. law, individuals who are any one of the following are considered to be a “U.S. Person”: (1) U.S. citizens, (2) legal permanent residents (a.k.a. green card holders), and (3) certain protected classes of asylees and refugees, as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)
