Role Title: Platform and Auxiliary Systems Engineer – Defence Sustainment
Are you an engineer with experience in platform, auxiliary, marine, mechanical, electrical or systems engineering, looking to contribute to complex Defence sustainment outcomes?
We are seeking a Platform and Auxiliary Systems Engineer to provide engineering advice, technical assurance and systems engineering support within a Defence sustainment environment. This role will support engineering design, requirements development, technical investigations, system reviews, verification and validation activities and procurement support for specialist systems under management.
You will contribute to work that supports system baselines, engineering assurance, seaworthiness and operational availability.
About the Role
As a Platform and Auxiliary Systems Engineer, you will support the planning and delivery of engineering services across platform and auxiliary systems. You will work within a multidisciplinary environment, contributing to requirements definition, design development, technical risk management, system safety, certification activities and engineering assurance.
This role is well suited to an engineer who enjoys solving practical technical problems, working with stakeholders and supporting engineering outcomes across the capability lifecycle. You will be involved in activities ranging from requirements and design reviews through to verification, validation, technical investigations and remediation support.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Provide specialist engineering advice and technical assurance support for platform and auxiliary systems.
- Support the planning and delivery of engineering services, including regulatory compliance, resource coordination and project outcomes.
- Contribute to requirements engineering activities, including Functional Performance Specifications, system specifications, and verification and validation requirements.
- Support detailed design development, including input to Integrated Logistics Support artefacts, NLIS toolset updates, system safety engineering and certification requirements.
- Identify, assess and manage technical risks, issues and dependencies.
- Conduct technical investigations, reviews and analysis to support engineering decisions.
- Prepare technical advice, reports, briefs and recommendations for Defence and project stakeholders.
- Support system reviews, including System Requirements Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews and Detailed Design Reviews.
- Facilitate and support verification and validation activities, including Developmental Test and Evaluation, Acceptance Test and Evaluation, and Operational Test and Evaluation.
- Support engineering remediation activities for contracted services and products.
- Provide technical input into Statements of Work for procurement activities.
- Participate in tender evaluations and technical reviews of contract deliverables.
- Maintain engineering documentation and records in accordance with approved processes.
- Support engineering assurance, configuration control and baseline management activities.
Skills and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in mechanical, electrical, marine, systems, mechatronics, naval architecture or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience supporting engineering activities in a Defence, maritime, sustainment, complex asset or technical project environment.
- Understanding of Defence engineering design, requirements development, technical assurance and verification and validation processes.
- Exposure to platform systems, auxiliary systems, marine systems, ship systems or specialist technical systems.
- Ability to conduct technical investigations, support engineering reviews and contribute to risk-based decision-making.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports, briefs and recommendations.
- Good stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work with Defence, industry and internal teams.
- Active Security clearance of Negative Vetting One (NV1)
