The opportunity
A well-established, purpose-driven organisation delivering critical digital services is building its modern platform engineering capability, and is looking for a Platform Engineer to help shape it.
This is a chance to build something that lasts: secure, reliable, self-service platform capabilities that engineering teams across the business use to build, deploy and run their services. Instead of each team reinventing the wheel, you’ll create the reusable building blocks they rely on.
What you’ll be doing
Building self-service capabilities: reusable Infrastructure as Code modules, templates and patterns that any application team can pick up and use
Designing, building and running the shared AWS platform: cloud infrastructure, data services and supporting tools
Creating and improving CI/CD pipelines: security and quality controls built in from the start
Standardising observability: logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards and alerting that teams can plug straight into
Helping move towards a centralised, unified deployment environment
Using automation to cut down manual effort and operational toil
Keeping the platform healthy: availability, capacity, performance and cost, plus incident response, root cause analysis and DR testing
Working with Architecture and Cyber Security on guardrails and standards that make delivery safe and consistent
Listening to engineering teams to prioritise improvements and drive adoption
What you’ll bring
Hands-on experience designing, building and operating AWS platforms and shared services
Strong Infrastructure as Code skills (Terraform, AWS CDK or CloudFormation)
Experience building and running CI/CD pipelines (for example Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or GitLab)
Scripting or programming skills to automate engineering and operational work
Experience implementing observability: logging, metrics, tracing and alerting
A good grasp of cloud security, reliability, incident response and disaster recovery
A product mindset: you build for your internal customers and care about adoption
Desirable: experience with shared data platforms, and familiarity with AI-assisted engineering
Why apply?
A rare chance to shape platform foundations, not just maintain them
Modern AWS-native work with real autonomy
An organisation whose work genuinely matters to the community
Hybrid working and a collaborative, supportive team
Background checks apply, and the role includes occasional out-of-hours support.
