Summary

Senior IT platform engineering lead owning architecture, standards, lifecycle and resilience across infrastructure, network, cloud, identity and venue technology for a major Gold Coast event venue. Hands-on with Azure, Windows Server, Cisco networking, Palo Alto, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, plus mentoring the IT team.

Ready to take technical ownership of the platforms behind one of Australia's premier event venues?

We are looking for an experienced IT Platform Engineering Lead to take technical ownership of the platforms that underpin our corporate operations and the delivery of world-class events. As the senior technical authority for our environment, you will own platform architecture, technical standards and lifecycle strategy across infrastructure, network, cloud, identity and venue technology, working closely with the IT Manager and broader IT team to shape a modern, standardised and resilient technology environment.

THE ROLE
This is a broad technical leadership role combining architecture, engineering, governance and hands-on technical expertise. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Owning and evolving architecture across infrastructure, network, cloud, identity and endpoint platforms
  • Acting as the technical design authority for infrastructure and platform changes
  • Establishing standards, configuration baselines and repeatable design patterns across corporate and event technology environments
  • Developing platform lifecycle strategies and maintaining a forward-looking technology roadmap
  • Leading infrastructure design and procurement decisions, ensuring new technologies align with GCCEC's architectural direction and standards
  • Driving platform resilience, availability, capacity and performance
  • Defining and maintaining high-availability, backup and disaster recovery plans
  • Ensuring cybersecurity principles and controls are embedded into platform architecture and engineering
  • Leading technical root cause analysis following major incidents and driving improvements arising from those reviews
  • Acting as the senior escalation point for complex or high-impact technical issues, including critical event scenarios
  • Providing technical leadership and mentoring across the IT team, promoting strong documentation, knowledge sharing and engineering discipline

A particularly important part of the role will be helping us continue the evolution from environments dependent on individual technical knowledge towards standardised, documented and repeatable platforms that can scale with the needs of the business.

ABOUT YOU
We are looking for an experienced infrastructure or platform engineer who has progressed beyond simply administering technology and can think at an architecture and design level. You'll bring strong experience designing and managing enterprise technology platforms and be comfortable taking technical ownership of decisions, standards and long-term platform direction. Ideally, your technical background will include:

  • Microsoft Azure, with Azure Local (highly regarded)
  • Windows Server and desktop environments
  • Complex Cisco routing, switching and wireless environments
  • Palo Alto Networks security platforms
  • Endpoint management
  • Microsoft 365 administration
  • Identity management including Active Directory and Entra ID
  • Enterprise backup and recovery
  • Enterprise application integration

You'll also understand that technical leadership is about more than being the person with the answers. We want someone who documents well, shares knowledge, develops others and builds systems and standards that make the whole IT function stronger. Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or a related discipline are desirable, together with relevant architecture-level or professional certifications across areas such as Azure, Cisco, cybersecurity or IT service management.

Full Australian working rights are required for this position in addition to a probity check.
