Power Plant Safety Manager

You will maintain a safe work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors at a power plant and data center operation. You will develop safety programs, deliver training, inspect facilities, investigate incidents, maintain required safety records, and ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, OSHA, and MSHA requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safety training on policies, regulations, procedures, workplace safety, fire prevention, and material handling.
  • Advise the administrative team on safety issues and compliance for projects and operations.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, legal, and internal policy requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and current safety records, SOPs, JSAs, and written programs.
  • Investigate accidents involving personnel, visitors, and contractors, and implement corrective measures.
  • Develop and implement occupational health and safety programs.
  • Document accidents and injuries and provide evidence for legal proceedings as required.
  • Inspect the facility for actual and potential accident and health hazards and follow up on corrective measures.
  • Use job hazard analysis, accident analysis, inspections, and safety education to prevent accidents.
  • Prepare and submit accident reports, root cause analyses, OSHA logs, MSHA quarterly reports, and near-miss reports.
  • Oversee workers' compensation administration and coordinate with insurance carriers and health care providers.
  • Assist with preparation of the plant business plan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in safety management, industrial safety, or industrial hygiene and two years of safety-related experience; or five years of safety-related experience in solid fuel power generation or a power-related business and board certification such as CSP, ASP, OHST, CUSA, or CIH.
  • At least two years of relevant power plant experience, including two years of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and verbal presentation skills.
  • Ability to conduct health and safety training for plant and contractor personnel.
  • Working knowledge of Windows-based software, including Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements including sitting, standing, walking, occasional lifting, and climbing.
  • Participation in the Fitness for Duty Program, including post-offer physical examination and drug screening and random post-employment drug screening.
