JOB PURPOSE
e2Companies is seeking a Power Systems Applications Engineer to develop preliminary power-system designs for large commercial, industrial, institutional, and mission-critical facilities.
This position will assess customer loads, existing electrical systems, utility service, site constraints, reliability requirements, and future capacity needs. The engineer will use those findings to develop system architectures that integrate utility power, natural gas generation, battery energy storage systems, power conversion equipment, switchgear, controls, and critical loads.
Key deliverables include conceptual one-line diagrams, equipment configurations, design criteria, preliminary calculations, scopes, equipment lists, and cost inputs. The engineer will support each opportunity through the pre-award phase and provide a complete technical handoff to Power Systems Engineering and Project Management after contract award.
This is a technical engineering role supporting business development. It carries no sales quota or commission responsibility.
This position requires full-time, on-site employment at our Bonita Springs, Florida headquarters. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates willing to relocate to Southwest Florida.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead technical discovery for large commercial, industrial, institutional, mission-critical, and distributed-energy projects
- Conduct site assessments to evaluate utility service, electrical infrastructure, customer loads, equipment condition, available space, and expansion requirements
- Develop conceptual power-system designs integrating utility sources, generators, BESS, UPS or power conversion systems, switchgear, transformers, controls, and critical loads
- Prepare one-line diagrams, configuration drawings, equipment schedules, design narratives, and basis-of-design documents
- Evaluate system reliability, redundancy, maintainability, and fault-isolation requirements
- Define normal, grid-connected, islanded, battery ride-through, generator, bypass, maintenance, and emergency operating modes
- Perform or review preliminary load calculations, equipment sizing, voltage-drop analysis, and available fault-current estimates
- Define preliminary protection, control, metering, SCADA, and communications requirements
- Identify required load-flow, short-circuit, coordination, arc-flash, grounding, harmonic, transient, and interconnection studies
- Select the appropriate e2Companies hardware and software configuration for each application
- Identify technical risks, assumptions, utility dependencies, permitting requirements, long-lead equipment, and constructability concerns
- Develop technical scopes and equipment quantities to support estimates and customer proposals
- Present proposed designs and recommendations to technical and non-technical customer teams
- Coordinate with Sales, Power Systems Engineering, Product Development, Project Management, Procurement, and external engineering partners
- Prepare a complete technical handoff package after contract award and support the transition into detailed engineering
- Travel up to 50 percent for short-duration site assessments, customer meetings, and technical reviews
- Perform other duties as assigned
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (MUST-HAVE)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent directly relevant experience
- 5+ years of power-system design experience supporting utilities, industrial plants, manufacturing facilities, large commercial developments, institutional campuses, mission-critical facilities, or distributed-energy projects
- Experience developing electrical distribution architectures and conceptual one-line diagrams
- Experience designing or integrating medium-voltage and low-voltage distribution systems
- Working knowledge of power-system equipment, including several of the following: switchgear, transformers, protective relays, generators, UPS systems, inverters, and BESS
- Experience performing or interpreting one or more power-system studies, such as load-flow, short-circuit, protective-device coordination, voltage-drop, grounding, or arc-flash studies
- Experience with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, or comparable power-system analysis software
- Ability to turn customer loads, operating needs, reliability requirements, and site constraints into a viable system design
- Knowledge of system protection, selective coordination, redundancy, maintainability, or fault isolation
- Ability to explain technical designs to engineering and non-engineering audiences
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills
- Ability to travel up to 50 percent
- Ability to work full-time on site at the Bonita Springs headquarters
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (NICE-TO-HAVE)
- Experience designing redundant power systems for data centers, healthcare facilities, advanced manufacturing operations, institutional campuses, or other mission-critical environments
- Experience integrating on-site generation, BESS, medium-voltage UPS, microgrids, or inverter-based resources
- Experience developing basis-of-design documents, equipment specifications, technical proposals, or front-end engineering packages
- Familiarity with utility interconnection, grid-connected operation, and islanded operation
- Knowledge of SCADA, power-management systems, metering, controls, and communications
- Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 110, NFPA 855, IEEE 1547, applicable IEEE C37 standards, and related UL requirements
- Professional Engineer license or progress toward licensure
