You’ve spent years honing your native iOS craft, and you know your best work happens when you’re close to the product and the people using it. As a Principal iOS Engineer, you’ll be the senior hands‑on engineer on a flagship wealth management mobile platform for ultra‑high‑net‑worth individuals, building features that directly shape how clients with $50m+ in assets manage their portfolios.
Our client is a specialist financial services consultancy partnering with top‑tier global institutions. This role exists because a key project is kicking off now, and you are needed as a senior individual contributor who can own complex mobile delivery in a small, high‑performing, client‑facing team based on‑site in New York.
What You’ll Do
As Principal iOS Engineer, you will lead the end‑to‑end design and development of native iOS features in Swift, SwiftUI and UIKit for a flagship wealth management mobile platform.
Act as the senior technical authority in a cross‑functional squad of around five, shaping architecture, setting coding standards and mentoring other engineers without formal line management.
Work directly with product managers, UI/UX designers, backend engineers and client stakeholders to turn complex financial workflows into intuitive, performant mobile experiences.
Champion clean, maintainable code using modern architectural patterns (e.g. MVVM), robust testing, and performance optimization across the app.
Own debugging and performance tuning for critical journeys, ensuring the app is reliable and responsive for demanding, high‑value users.
Bring fresh thinking on iOS frameworks, tooling and best practices into the team and influence technical direction across the wider mobile estate.
What You’ll Bring
You have 10+ years of hands‑on native iOS development experience, with deep proficiency in Swift, plus extensive use of SwiftUI and UIKit.
You have a track record operating at Senior/Principal level on complex, mission‑critical mobile applications, ideally in high‑demand environments.
You have experience in consulting or services organisations, or equivalent external client‑facing work, with strong communication skills and confidence handling senior stakeholders.
You have solid knowledge of iOS architecture patterns (such as MVVM), RESTful API integration, Git‑based workflows (GitHub/GitLab), and modern testing practices; exposure to CI/CD pipelines for mobile is a plus.
You have a collaborative, dependable approach, and you are comfortable challenging ideas constructively, supporting teammates, and representing engineering in front of clients.
Nice to have: experience in wealth or asset management, or broader financial services, and a portfolio of shipped apps (App Store or enterprise).
What’s On Offer
Base salary of $160,000–$180,000, depending on experience and level.
