Oracle Database Engineer
Join Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and play a vital role in the expansion and adoption of innovative cloud technologies. We are developing scalable public cloud services across Compute, Storage, Networking, Governance, Database, and Load Balancing. The Database Operations team is responsible for operating and improving highly available Oracle Database services on Exadata in OCI. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Provide engineering and operational management for a massively scaled Oracle Database fleet running on Exadata in OCI.
• Own database availability, performance, capacity, security, and operational readiness for assigned production services.
• Perform detailed Oracle Database 19c performance analysis, tuning, and diagnostics using AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQL Monitor, execution plans, and operating-system-
level diagnostics.
• Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Oracle RAC, ASM, Grid Infrastructure, Exadata, Oracle Data Guard physical standby databases, RMAN backup and

• Plan, validate, execute, and monitor Oracle Database, Grid Infrastructure, and Exadata patching and upgrade activities, including change planning, risk assessment,
rollback planning, and post-change validation.
• Troubleshoot complex production incidents, perform root-cause analysis, implement permanent corrective actions, and improve operational runbooks and SOPs.
• Project long-range database capacity, lifecycle, and operational requirements in partnership with service owners across the Oracle Cloud ecosystem.
• Conduct database health checks, quality-control reviews, and audits to ensure secure, reliable, and appropriate use of database services.
• Design and implement automation for database provisioning, health checks, patching,upgrades, monitoring, remediation, and fleet operations using Python, Shell, Perl, or
similar scripting languages.
• Build and improve self-healing monitors, alerting, dashboards, and automation that reduce manual operational work and improve database stability.
• Partner with development, SRE, infrastructure, and security teams to improve service architecture, reliability, observability, resiliency, and performance.
• Understand OCI architecture and dependencies, including IAM, compartments, VCNs, compute, storage, networking, load balancers, monitoring, logging, and
security controls.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to support production database services. Qualifications include:
• 8+ years of experience in Oracle Database Engineering, Database Administration,SRE, DevOps, or Systems Engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience administering Oracle Database 19c in production
environments.
• Deep expertise in Oracle Database performance analysis, tuning, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
• Strong experience with Oracle RAC, ASM, Grid Infrastructure, Oracle Data Guard,RMAN, database upgrades, and quarterly patching.
• Strong understanding of Exadata architecture, administration, performance, and operational best practices.
• Deep understanding of cloud architecture and OCI services, including networking,storage, compute, IAM, observability, and security.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or Perl.
• Familiarity with infrastructure automation and orchestration tools such as Ansible,Terraform, Jenkins, Chef, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience with incident response, root-cause analysis, change management, and production operational processes.
• Ability to lead complex technical investigations and ensure that appropriate changes, upgrades, and enhancements are implemented based on sound technical analysis.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining, developing, debugging, and improving software and automation for tasks associated with operating Oracle Database services and supporting infrastructure. You will contribute to changes in service architecture to meet evolving operational, scalability, security, and reliability requirements. Work is non-routine and complex, requiring the application of advanced technical and business skills in a specialized area. he Database Operations team supports critical OCI services and platforms. Every new
service capability and OCI region increases the scale and complexity of the databases we
operate. These challenges require deep Oracle Database Administration skills, strong SRE
practices, and the ability to leverage Oracle technologies and automation to improve
reliability and operational efficiency.
Database Administrators and Engineers spend a significant amount of time maintaining
production databases, responding to operational issues, and improving database availability
and performance. When not handling operational work, the Database Administrator/Engineer
works on engineering efforts such as automation, self-healing monitors, performance
improvements, patching and upgrade automation, and other initiatives that improve
operational excellence and database stability.
The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of Oracle Database technologies, Exadata,
Oracle Data Guard, RAC, Grid Infrastructure, performance tuning, scripting, and automation.
