Posted Updated
Description
Are you a strategic business development leader who thrives on building transformative partnerships and unlocking new opportunities at scale? Amazon is looking for a Principal Technical Business Development professional to own and drive some of our most complex and high-impact business opportunities. In this role, you will shape strategy in areas where the path forward is not yet defined, working with C-level executives and cross-functional teams to build lasting partnerships that create long-term value for customers and Amazon alike. You will combine deep business acumen with technical fluency to identify growth areas, negotiate critical deals, and influence product direction. If you are a self-starter who is energized by ambiguity, skilled at turning market insights into actionable strategy, and passionate about delivering meaningful results, this is your opportunity to make a significant impact.
Key job responsibilities
- Own end-to-end strategy and execution for the most complex business development opportunities, engaging with external partners up through the C-level to move deals forward and optimize for long-term sustainability.
- Identify, develop, and manage a pipeline of internal and external opportunities, leveraging market research and economic analysis to inform investment decisions and articulate a compelling rationale for growth over a 3-to-5-year horizon.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to translate customer requirements and market signals into product roadmap priorities, ensuring alignment between business strategy and technical capabilities.
- Represent complex decisions and trade-offs clearly in writing and verbally to senior leadership through the SVP level, owning strategic planning documents and driving cross-functional alignment across multiple organizations.
- Mentor and develop team members, contribute to hiring efforts, and build scalable mechanisms such as business reviews and reporting frameworks that keep the organization connected to key metrics and milestones.
A day in the life
You might start your morning reviewing data from a weekly business review, identifying trends that signal a new partnership opportunity. By mid-morning, you are in a working session with account managers, specialists, and solution architects, shaping how a customer's feedback translates into roadmap priorities. After lunch, you lead a call with a C-level executive at a prospective customer, navigating a nuanced negotiation that balances short-term asks with long-term value. Later, you draft a strategic proposal for senior leadership, distilling complex inputs into a clear recommendation. Throughout it all, you are coaching a teammate on how to approach an ambiguous deal.
About the team
Our team sits at the intersection of technology and business strategy at Amazon, working to unlock new growth by building partnerships and opportunities that have broad organizational impact. We operate with a high degree of autonomy, tackling problems where the strategy has not yet been written. We value curiosity, collaboration, and a willingness to think long-term. If you are excited about shaping the future of how Amazon partners with customers and industries, and you want to work alongside thoughtful, driven colleagues who support each other's growth, we would love to hear from you.
