Principal Web Engineer

Summary

Principal Web Engineer leading the design of modular runtime/plugin systems, reusable game frameworks, and a multi-package SDK ecosystem using TypeScript, Node.js, and modern build tools like Rollup/Webpack/Vite for web game development.

Responsibilities

Platform Architecture & Frameworks

  • Design and own a modular runtime/plugin system (dependency management, lifecycle, configuration, isolation, graceful fallback).
  • Build and evolve reusable game frameworks that standardize core patterns (state, events, config-driven logic) while remaining extensible.
  • Define and enforce platform contracts, including API stability, backward compatibility, and upgrade policies.

Tooling, Build & Release

  • Develop and maintain a multi-package SDK ecosystem (private npm, versioning, changelogs, CI/CD, release automation).
  • Own bundling strategy (Rollup/Webpack/Vite): code splitting, tree-shaking, and bundle optimization.
  • Implement safe rollout strategies across projects (canary releases, compatibility checks, automated validations).

Performance & Quality

  • Establish platform-wide performance budgets (bundle size, load time, memory, FPS stability).
  • Provide shared observability tools (logging, telemetry, error handling standards).
  • Improve developer experience through documentation, templates, and reference implementations.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner with game and compliance teams to translate recurring needs into reusable platform features.
  • Lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and drive platform roadmap and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above in computer science, software engineering, Game Development or a related technical field.
  • 6+ years of Web / Game Development experience in high-concurrency engineering environment such as e-commerce, gaming and social platforms.
  • Strong expertise in TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining SDKs/frameworks used across multiple projects.
  • Strong understanding of modern build systems (Rollup, Webpack, Vite) and performance optimization.
  • Strong system design skills for modular, scalable architectures (plugins, lifecycle, dependencies).
  • Experience profiling and optimizing performance in mobile web environments.
  • Ability to contribute to technical direction and engineering best practices through areas such as architecture discussions, code reviews, mentoring, or technical decision-making.

Nice To Have

  • Experience with web game engines (e.g. Cocos Creator, Phaser, PixiJS).
  • Familiarity with iframe-based integrations and varying host environments.
  • Experience with WebGL performance tuning and asset pipelines
