Security Architect

$190,000+ Super | Melbourne CBD | Hybrid (3 days per week on-site)

We're looking for a Security Architect to join an in-house security team of six, reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer. This is a senior, hands-on opportunity for an experienced security practitioner to lead a SIEM transformation, strengthen security monitoring and detection capability, and act as the technical authority on cyber security across the organisation.

All security engineering capability is delivered in-house, so this role carries genuine ownership, from architecture and strategy through to the tools the team uses every day. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business, so this environment will suit someone as comfortable in an executive conversation as they are in the detail of a security control.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the evaluation, selection and implementation of a new SIEM platform, as we transition away from our current solution
  • Strengthening our security monitoring and detection capabilities across the organisation
  • Architecting, planning and overseeing the implementation and continuous improvement of security measures protecting our data, systems and networks
  • Setting security strategy and establishing best practices, standards and policies aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements
  • Acting as the escalation point and senior technical authority for the security engineering team, and leading the response to complex, high-impact security incidents
  • Building credibility and influence with technical and business stakeholders, including at executive level, to drive security outcomes across the business
  • Reviewing audit findings and ensuring timely, effective remediation
  • Conducting and overseeing security assessments of in-house and third-party applications
  • Designing and delivering security awareness training to uplift cyber safety capability across the organisation

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Proven experience leading or delivering SIEM implementations, with a strong background in security monitoring and detection
  • Strong background in security architecture and security engineering best practices
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the credibility and gravitas to influence decision-making across both technical and business audiences
  • A demonstrated ability to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and bring clarity to complex or high-pressure situations

Highly regarded:

  • A consulting background, given the level of stakeholder engagement and influence this role requires
  • Experience in financial services or another regulated industry
  • Deep technical grounding across core infrastructure, Windows Server and Active Directory, networking, scripting (PowerShell), Linux/UNIX, Privileged Access Management, firewall/WAF administration
  • The two things that matter most for this role are SIEM expertise, real, proven experience leading detection and monitoring capability, not just operating an existing platform and gravitas: the ability to walk into a room with senior stakeholders and be the credible, trusted voice on security.
