Procedural Voice Designer

Open 27d

Summary

Designs expressive AI-generated voice performances for games and interactive media using TTS/STS platforms, collaborating with directors and narrative teams to refine synthetic dialogue.

About the Role

As Side continues to expand its Synthetic Voice Design services, we are looking for an innovative Procedural Voice Designer to help shape the next generation of interactive dialogue for games and digital entertainment.

Working within our Audio team, you will combine creative direction, technical expertise, and emerging AI technologies to produce high-quality voice performances using modern Text-to-Speech (TTS) and Speech-to-Speech (STS) platforms.

This is far more than simply generating AI voices. You'll work closely with Directors, Narrative Designers, Production, Localization and clients to transform scripts into believable performances through careful voice design, prompt engineering, voice direction, editing and quality control.

The successful candidate will help develop scalable synthetic voice production workflows while maintaining the creative standards Side is known for across the global games industry.

Key Responsibilities

Voice Design & Creative Direction

  • Design expressive AI-generated voice performances for games and interactive media.
  • Develop detailed voice briefs, character profiles, vocal direction and prompting strategies for AI voice generation.
  • Interpret scripts and narrative context to ensure performances align with each character's personality, emotion and delivery style.
  • Experiment with tone, pacing, narration techniques, emotional tags and prompt structures to maximise performance quality.
  • Collaborate with Audio Directors to refine performances through multiple iterations.

Voice Production

  • Generate voice content using modern Text-to-Speech (TTS) and Speech-to-Speech (STS) technologies.
  • Select appropriate synthetic speech platforms and voices based on project requirements.
  • Build and maintain internal voice libraries and voice databases.
  • Produce multiple performance variations where required for creative review.
  • Support multilingual voice generation across numerous languages.
  • Share knowledge and contribute to internal best practices.

Workflow & Pipeline Development

  • Contribute to the development of scalable AI voice production workflows.
  • Work closely with Production, Localization and QA teams to optimise delivery pipelines.
  • Assist in defining production methodologies for different levels of voice complexity.
  • Support continuous improvement of internal tools, templates and documentation.
  • Help evaluate new procedural voice platforms, technologies and production techniques.

Audio Editing & Quality

  • Edit, clean and master generated dialogue using professional audio software.
  • Remove artefacts and improve overall audio quality.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet Side's technical specifications and quality standards.
  • Work with QA and Localization teams to validate scripts, pronunciation and language accuracy.

What We're Looking For

Required Experience

  • Experience working in game audio, dialogue production, voice design, audio post-production or a related field.
  • Understanding of modern synthetic voice technologies including Text-to-Speech (TTS) and Speech-to-Speech (STS).
  • Experience editing dialogue using professional audio software such as Reaper, Pro Tools or iZotope RX.
  • Strong understanding of dialogue performance, pacing and storytelling.
  • Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary production teams.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.

Ideal Profile

  • Experience with prompt engineering for generative speech synthesis systems.
  • Familiarity with SSML, narration tags or other voice direction methodologies.
  • Understanding of game dialogue pipelines and localisation workflows.
  • Curiosity for evaluating new AI technologies and creative tools.
  • Passion for games, storytelling and emerging technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Highly organised, proactive and collaborative.
  • Committed to responsible and ethical use of AI technologies.
