Procurement Lead (Ship Supplies)
Key Areas of Responsibility
Purchasing & Supplier Management
- Lead the purchasing function and set clear priorities for the team.
- Source and evaluate suppliers for marine, vessel and general ship supply requirements.
- Negotiate competitive pricing, payment terms, rebates and other commercial arrangements.
- Develop a reliable supplier network while identifying opportunities to reduce unnecessary supplier duplication.
- Keep up with market pricing, product availability and changes in supplier costs.
Product & Category Management
- Review product ranges and purchasing patterns to determine which items should be stocked, sourced on demand or phased out.
- Take responsibility for selected categories and improve their overall commercial performance.
- Work with the wider procurement team to align product ranges across different markets where practical.
- Identify alternative products and suppliers that can improve cost competitiveness without compromising customer requirements.
Inventory & Stock Planning
- Work closely with warehouse teams to maintain appropriate stock levels.
- Improve purchasing forecasts and replenishment planning based on demand and historical purchasing trends.
- Reduce slow-moving, excess and obsolete inventory.
- Ensure critical and frequently requested ship supplies remain readily available.
- Help improve the use of available warehouse space through better stock planning.
Team Leadership
- Manage and develop the Singapore purchasing team.
- Train purchasers on supplier sourcing, negotiation, product knowledge and purchasing practices.
- Establish clear working standards and encourage accountability within the team.
- Coach team members to become more commercially aware and independent in their purchasing decisions.
- Work closely with the Dubai and Manila support teams to maintain consistent procurement practices.
Commercial Improvement
- Analyse purchasing activity to identify opportunities to improve gross margins and reduce costs.
- Use purchasing data and market information to support better buying decisions.
- Introduce practical improvements to procurement processes, systems and reporting.
- Work with management to strengthen the company's overall purchasing position and buying power.
- Take the lead on procurement projects that can deliver measurable savings or operational improvements.
Requirements
- Relevant experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain or ship supplies.
- Experience in the marine, maritime, ship chandling or vessel supply industry will be highly advantageous.
- Strong supplier negotiation and relationship-management skills.
- Previous experience leading or supervising a purchasing team.
- Good understanding of inventory and stock management.
- Commercial mindset with a strong understanding of pricing and margins.
- Comfortable working with large product databases and purchasing information.
- Able to work with international teams and suppliers across different markets.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple purchasing requirements simultaneously.
- Proactive, practical and willing to get involved in the details when required.
